At this point I'm more willing to give Alan Quine a 1 year 1 way at 950,000K then to qualify Jankowski.

I love Quine and think he'd be great as a regular 4th liner, even able to move up to third sometimes. He really showed well his last time up but a costly turn over had him sent down immediately.

Right age, right potential cap hit and has experience playing with the big club. Would love to see it happen.

Plus, he's been killing it in the AHL. 98 points (33 G's - 65 A's) in 79 GP. He absolutely deserves a roster spot.

Quine is a UFA and I doubt he signs with the Flames org again. He tore the AHL to pieces and looked pretty good whenever he got called up IMO, but still only managed to suit up in 22 games over two season with about 10 minutes of ice per game.
He'll probably look for a fresh pasture hoping to get more reward for what looked like strong performance.
Hopefully the Flames can bring in another guy like him, it's good to have players like that on the farm helping the young players hit the score sheet on a regular basis and build their confidence.

Quine absolutely deserved a better look. He was a good soldier and did enough to earn it.
Maybe he gets one in this stint.
Probably will go off regardless and become an NHLer elsewhere though because of the lack of opportunity given.

If we want to improve the forward ranks we need to make room in the top 12. Barring any trades that starts with Jankowski and Reider losing their regular spots.
You definitely don’t qualify Janko. Maybe re-sign him for 1yr, at a lower cap hit, and have him for depth.
|
If Hall signs, then I don't even think that trading Johnny for futures would be the worst move in the world. It says something about the play of regulars Janko and Reider, that adding Phillips and Philp would be a drastic improvement of the entire roster.
Gaudreau/Hall-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane
Bennett-Dube-Philp
Lucic-Ryan-Phillips
is better than this years roster. You add in growth to young players Dube, Mangiapane and Tkachuk and that's a nice looking team. Philp and Phillips have tonnes of energy and are legit scoring threats, from the bottom six.

Quine is a better player in general than Jankowski. No question.

Too bad there isn't a Phil for the second line.

There is no way we trade Gaudreau in the same year we acquire Hall unless it’s a ridiculous overpayment. You make that top 6 work for one run, moving whoever fits to a RW position.
Hall Monahan Gaudreau
Tkachuk Lindholm Magiapanne
Mix and match Lindholm as a center and what you need to do to get Gaudreau to another 100 point season even if it’s Hall Lindholm Gaudreau but take one run before Gaudreaus limited NTC kicks in and at the same time radian this value bet
Not to mention finally having Backlund as one of the best third line centres in the league.

I keep reading about the Flames signing Hall. Are these legit rumours or fans just talking out loud?

I think there is legitimate interest from possibly both parties. By no means a slam dunk or anything.

Last 3 seasons combined:
Bennett: 32g, 33a, 65pts. -25, 188 PIM. 2.55M cap hit.
Jankowski: 36g, 28a, 64pts. -13, 59 PIM. 1.67M cap hit.
So for many of you it's obviously also a no brainer to not qualify Sam Bennett?

Bennett doesn't produce, but at least he also doesn't play meek.

He certainly doesn't play smart always putting the team a man down. He also doesn't play defense very well, or kill penalties and makes more money. So each has their certain weaknesses and intangibles.

Jankowski is 2 years older than Sam. If Bennett has another season like this next year, he likely is exposed in the expansion draft and should not be getting paid anywhere lose to his current salary.

Jankowski is too busy killing off Bennett's "stupid" penalties.

Fair enough but it can also be said Sam has 364 games under his belt compared to Jankowskis 208 to figure out how to be successful to play in the NHL.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm kind of hoping both are gone by next season.
They produce like 4th liners but are too expensive to keep when you already have Lucic and Ryan making over $8 million against the cap in your bottom 6.
