Let's get that trade thread outta here. Someone else can start a Huberdeau thread if they want, he's great too.
But man. Oh man. Oh god oh man. MacKenzie Weegar is unbelievably good. He was fantastic tonight. Two terrific plays to set up Flames goals. He's the closest thing to a rover this team has had in a very, very long time.
Huge hits, huge plays, huge value. I don't want to get ahead of myself so I guess I won't say I think he has a chance to win a Norris under Darryl. Nobody quote me on that. (Even though I think it's true).
Great player, great trade.

Very solid opening night. Really hoping for consistency from the backend and he sure did a lot to impress. Will be a good problem to have once Kylington comes back. This team needs to play defence first and the Weegar addition adds to our strength at that position.
Huberdeau for Tkachuk would have been a pretty even swap. Huberdeau + Weegar makes it a very lobsided trade. Huberdeau + Weegar + 1st round pick + prospect for Tkachuk may just be the most ridiculous trade I've seen since I started watching hockey 20 years ago. Certainly has to be the most lobsided trade in Flames favor in franchise history

A lot of the lopsidedness was from picking up two pending UFAs. Brad had two jobs to hit this trade out of the park, the trade and the signings. I have to admit I did not see both happening before the season.
I'm shocked at what he pulled off.

This is why I kept asking for info on his extension before he signed!! Darryl said he was good when he had the puck but had to work on positioning without it. Are defense is going to be amazing!
Talked about his maturation as a player and person; also had high praise for Aaron Ekblad.
The quote at the end also stood out:
Quote:
Weegar: “Dealing with you guys [media], for me, it’s awesome. The hype about the Canadian media is great. You guys are awesome…we’re going to be here a long time and I’ll get to know you guys a lot more. it just makes it more enjoyable.”
Fantastic flames debut! Getting him signed pre season was a playa move too. He is definitely going to get the recognition that he has earned in a flames uniform!
Neil Breen movies are treasure and must be protected.
Anyway I love Weegar so much!
The only thing better then a Neil Breen movie is a Red Letter Media review of a Neil Breen movie, lol
Weegs was awesome, my son & I were just talking about him when he started the rush up the ice, went end to end for a shot, chased after his rebound which got the puck to Lucic who passed it to Ritchie for his goal. Beauty!
