Seems doubtful, even with higher spending bus services (and ridership) are still reduced from pre-COVID days and much of the fleet is very old and needs replacement. And the Green Line is effectively taking all money for LRT for the next 20-30 years.

Yes, but it's intellectually dishonest..Many people parknon the street because their garagea are full of junk.

A more legitimate reason is that with the price of houses, children stay at home a lot longer, and households wind up with four cars.

This is why I wish at least one panelist would be asked, “don’t you have a garage?” just to shut down the argument.

The latter point you make is ironic though. I don’t think anyone speaking would be self aware enough to get it.

We could always put a price on the public storage of private property absolutely everywhere, but obviously that wouldn't be popular as we have a weird and irrational relationship with automobiles.

Craig Chandler alert at 7 hours and 11 minutes:

Use of words, "globalist" "anti-property" "liberalism of the inner cities" "15 minute cities" "i dont want to turn ward 12 into a ghetto" "George Soros and Kalus Schwab" "you own nothing and you will be happy" "union overlords"

this guy ran for council...

He must have had his fingers crossed behind his back when coming out against property owner rights.

Incidentally, what is with the disheveled slob look he has going on? Anyone wearing a suit jacket with untucked dress shirt needs some peter12 time.

Some people have such a grating voice, and then when they're forced to rush a 15 minute speech into 5 minutes...mute.

Funnily enough at the previous public council meeting on affordable housing (the one right before this one), I wound up speaking on the same panel as Craig Chandler and he was in favour of the housing affordability task force's recommendations and berating Dan McLean for not following Pierre Polievre's lead and crushing red tape and gatekeepers.

....but now it's been framed as the Trudeau-Gondek plan, all because of Trudeau's immigration and the WEF so we can go back to it being a partisan issue as is tradition.

Okay, seriously how does a motion pass 9-6 at YYC council to explore granting voting rights in municipal elections to permanent residents who are non-citizens? Seriously how was this not laughed out let alone have the support of the mayor and 8 councillors.

I'd be OK with that as a policy.

But it seems to me that this council has enough problems that are their responsibility to deal with that they don't need to spend time on stuff that isn't their problem.

Really?? At minimum to participate in democracy in Canada you should at least be a citizen. It shows the most basic long term commitment to the country. I wouldn't want an influx of transient residents who aren't committed to being in Canada long term have a say and potentially sway any decision making at the government level. I don't understand where this comes from at the civic level (Ie what is the problem they are trying to solve with this).

I don’t know about the transient part, but it’s entirely rational to think that we should have citizens making decisions for the citizens of the country. According to Google, only 45% of permanent residents become citizens within a decade.
