Do you think that was fair value? I mean, Toronto traded a pick for Tom Kurvers. That sure worked out well.
I don't think repeating other teams' mistakes is necessarily the way to go.
Doesn’t really matter if it’s fair value. Market value is whatever someone is willing to pay.
Teams repeat mistakes all the time. We see it every trade deadline and every July 1st.
Do I think the Flames should be renting players at the price of a 1st rounder? No I do not. Do I think Hayes might fetch a 1st at the deadline? I think that might happen.
Yeah I don't mind Maroon for more depth especially heading into the playoffs, but moving Maroon out of St. Louis would be bad optics for the Blues organization, and what I assume would leave a sour taste in the mouths of the players around the league.

It would suck for Maroon to get traded from the Blues.

Pretty sure he knows it is coming.
His full NTC turns to a 8 team NTC on February 1st. This was always a possibility when he signed with the Blues
He is UFA and if he wants a very good chance at a NHL contract next season he should probably try and have a decent playoff run.
If he plays well enough he can probably turn it in to another contract with the Blues this offseason.

Both the same age, but O'Reilly has 5 years left where as Schenn only has 2, and then he will likely get a higher AAV than ROR. Plus ROR would add yet another face off wizard to the line up.

I see the Blues moving players with less term on their deals than guys like RoR and Tarasenko. Would the Blues want to strip it down to the studs or retool and try and get younger? They did trade a lotto protected 1st to get ror so I can’t see them wanting to go full tank.
From the Flames I could see them coveting is pieces like Bennett, Jankowski, Dube, Valimaki, Andersson, Kylington, and obviously our top 4 forwards and Hanifin (which would be obvious no go). Picks also help as that is good currency come draft time. The flames have to be cautious moving picks and prospects but I do think Schenn would be an amazing fit here.

How will we fit O'Rielly's salary? I think it would be easier to fit Schenn. Speaking of O'Rielly i saw him chilling with Mcdavid at an airport in the off-season so it would be pretty funny if he came to Calgary.
Tonight underscores this team's true need. It has never stopped being goaltending.
If Mike Smith doesn't suck, great. The priority should still be finding out if Rittich is someone you believe in. Because if he's not, you have to go out and spend to bring in a goalie. If it costs your 1st round pick or dollars in free agency, the goaltending position must be addressed.
This team scores 5 goals a period every couple weeks. They don't need a forward, they need their guys to get healthy and they need their goaltending to reliably not require 5 goal periods.

I think they could use both. Rittich may be the answer to our goaltending. I agree we should find out by this off season. I think we still could use another offensive threat though. After Backlund things trail off quite a bit.
