Man I know I’m getting ahead of myself and it’s most likely not gonna happen but the thought of Lindholm/Nylander/Neal as our top 3 RW’s is crazy!

I think if there's a system where Sam could succeed, it's Toronto
They're super centre-dependent and I could see him being tried with a number of different guys up the middle
I could see him having great chemistry with Kadri or definitely even Matthews
Would it sting seeing him have success elsewhere? Maybe, although I'd be glad he'd find success, and I'd gladly take a guy like Nylander who we KNOW is good

The thing is if I think about the Flames using what remaining chips they have (which aren’t a lot) it would be for a young emerging starting goalie
That’s arguably the biggest missing piece not another forward

Not even any advanced stats love for him because his goal wasn't even an official shot attempt because of the erroneous whistle.

Come on, you know as well as everyone else that he had a shot and a goal, it was just an official's error that took them away. And how many faceoffs did you expect him to take playing left wing with a left-shooting centre? He set up his linemates a number of times, but they couldn't finish.

I really don’t want to lose Sam because I really do think he breaks out soon but if Nylander cost Hamonic + Bennett then yes I would do that trade knowing Bennett most likely explodes on a line with Tavares + Marner or Mathews + Marleau.

Revised

Hamonic
Bennett
3rd

For

Nylander
2nd

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Nylander
Dube - Jankowski - Neal
Frolik - Ryan - Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Stone
Valimaki - Andersson

Smith
Rittich

The Predators already let up because some of them heard the whistle.

You mean the ones who were already behind the play? The play was already at the point of no return when the whistle went.

Good god man give it a rest; your talking about half a second from when the whistle blew until the puck was hitting twine with a goalie that was already out of the play ‘letting up’ or not.

I get that Bennett is the current CP whipping target but man it gets tiring especially when Sam put together a solid performance last night.

He was robbed of a goal last night no ifs ands or buts; even the Nashville fans agreed and even past that he looked solid many shifts as well, Dube failed to bury some slick feeds by Bennett and his skating looks as good as ever.

That is good value and upgrades the team. Anytime you can go quantity for quality you do it IMO and another scorer that takes pressure off the top line would be fantastic.

But then you sure are super reliant on a very, very young blue line. To the point you are probably scrounging the waiver wire for depth.

I would do Hamonic and Bennett or Hamonic and Jankowski, without even blinking.

It just doesn't make sense to trade for Nylander..

I don't foresee us having the capspace so I don't know why we are discussing it as if there is any chance of it happening.

Unless we can trade Frolik AND Neal, I don't really see how we could make it work this season or next.

- We need to re-sign Tkachuk
- We need to sign a starting goalie
- We'll need to keep Stone if Hamonic is part of the deal
- We will also have Nylander's $7+ million contract

Subtracting Bennett's $1.95m and Hamonic's $3.85m won't be enough room to sign Nylander. If you trade Frolik to make room that's all fine and dandy this season but you are back in trouble come the offseason, hence you will need to try and move Neal.

It just seems like a pipedream is all I'm saying.

And Toronto will be needing the cap space going forward, so they won't be taking any salary back unless it's a young defenceman on a favourable contract, or someone on the last year of their contract.

The Hamonic and Tavares connection is interesting but didn't Travis want to be traded to a Western Team.

Can Nylander actually play center ? Hamonic + Bennett

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm (1A)
Tkachuk - Nylander - Neal (1B)
Dube - Backlund - Jankowski (2A Shutdown)
Frolik - Ryan - Czarnik (3)

That line up doesn't have a forth line. With the two top lines being nearly impossible to match up against.

Exactly. It's ironic that if we traded for Nylander, the salaries he and Tkachuk will command will put us in the same position/ structure Toronto is in now.

Outside of a long term starting goaltender, a 2nd line offence producing C is the biggest hole on the roster, in my opinion. Like Backlund, but he's the #3 C 9n a cup contender, not a point producing 2nd line guy.

Nylander is interesting, but the the price tag is not something the flames have tradeable assets in (young, proven, ideally, right handed defencemen).

Leafs would be dumb to trade for futures. They don't need picks, don't need forwards (depth c... Umm sure, maybe).

Flames aren't a good fit.

I could see carolina with their plethora of young d, Nashville, as good partners.

One thing that is becoming clear is the leafs do not need more high end scoring forwards.

Adding a strong dman to solidify their top4, and they are basically set as a cup contender for the next few years.
