Laine and his agent are no dummies. If Laine has a down year I can see him signing a bridge contract.

That won't matter at all. For the highest-end players like Laine or Matthew Tkachuk, or Aston Matthews it doesn't matter where they play in the lineup nor how many minutes they log. They are going to score a lot, and there is not much anyone can do about it.

Nor is any coach in the NHL going to make lineup changes to deliberately hinder their own goal production.

Speculation that barring a trade, the Habs will have to waive one of Jacob de la Rose or Nikita Scherbak

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...n-future-team/

If the Flames had roster room and if they didn't have Mangiapane waiting for a chance; taking a gamble on Scherbak would have been worthwhile.

Another interesting scenario to watch is what the Jets will do with Nic Petan returning to the team after the death of his father.

They will need to make a roster move to keep the team under 23 players, which could be as simple as just assigning waiver exempt Lemieux or Vesalainen to the AHL.

The other option barring trade is to waive Petan.

Man, I'll always remember Petan as being that flashy kid who was always being compared to Gaudreau. "That other board" was absolutely certain he would end up being a better prospect than Johnny, who was too small to pull off his tricks against NHL defenders.

He wasn’t a first rounder but JDLR is from that much vaunted 2013 draft that GMBT likes so much. Klimchuk for him, just for fun and to build on all the trading with habs?

Have to figure they keep Scherbak with his upside.

The old regime had him on the list and brought him in for a meeting during his draft year. Seems like he will be a better NHLer than Poirier or Klimchuk will be.

How close would a Nylander for Hamonic trade be? Would you do it? I love the fact it's a Calgary boy sticking it to Toronto

Would Love Nylander but unless Feeling has some level 99 wizardry to make that cap hit go up a whole lot we cannot afford Nylander/Tkachuk salaries . And I think they want to keep the D depth.

I really have enjoyed Hamonic and what he brings but if you could make the dollars work and it didn’t include Bennett you have to admit the line-up is scary good.

Hamonic
Jankowski
1st

For

Nylander

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Nylander
Bennett - Dube - Neal
Frolik - Ryan - Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Stone
Valimaki - Andersson

Smith
Rittich

Crazy lineup but cap hell in the offseason unless Tre puts on god mode wizardry.

Pros to consider:

Gives us arguably the most lethal set of forwards in the west top to bottom
Same agent as Gaudreau
Ties to Calgary - born there during his dads stop in Calgary
Hamonic closely tied to Tavares; gives Leafs a real desperate need
Leafs hands kind of tied with the big 4; most likely need to sell Nylander
Longer this goes on the greater a distraction it becomes

Cons:
Cost of 1st a guarantee
Thins the blue line / top 4
Cap constraints after this season

Idk if I'd include both Jankowski and the first. I might do Hamonic, Mangiapane and a 1st.

Sam Bennett's ice time was nearly doubled last game but he still had zero's across the board, here are the stats.

You did see the goal he was incorrectly robbed of by the official right?
He deserved all of those minutes last night.

Your comparison is using a Flame player 2 years younger than the one we would be trading for and the Leafs Dman being 10 years older than the one we are trading in the scenario. Bad comparison.

Having said that it is a lopsided trade for Calgary and they would be adding significantly.
