I agree. Something around the Sens getting their first back plus a couple other adds. Makes too much sense and Karlsson would re-sign there.

Eklund stating sharks, oilers, Canucks are in on Karlsson...

You'd have to think the price is for a decent roster player, a high prospect(s), and a pick.

Wonder what the oilers would be willing to part with...
Klefbom, bouchard, protected 1st?

What would need to be added?

My guess is Edmonton is offering Nurse, Pool Party, and a protected 1st.

Oilers would have to send a lot more salary back.
They have $3.9M in cap space as is, Puljujarvi is still on a $925K ELC. Karlssons current cap hit is $6.5M.
If Sekera is able to return at any point this season, the Oilers could not be cap compliant. They'll be even harder pressed to re-sign Karlsson, which if you're giving up 2 of your best young roster players, you'd have to ensure their is an extension in place.
I just don't think it's possible for the Oilers to fit Karlsson into the cap without giving up Draisaitl.

If the Oilers wanted to sign him they would have to send money the other way. My guess is that which would mean that Draisaitl, RNH, Kleffbomb, Nurse and Larrson would all be in the conversation. Those are their only contracts that they could/ would be willing to move.

Yeah good point, Draisaitl would have to go based on salary alone. Also, I imagine Nurse is not wanting to take any kind of discount to play in Edmonton, and he wants out. Problem is, does he want to go to the gong show that is the Senators? Probably not.

Ya, Ottawa isn't exactly an attractive destination right now, however Nurse is from Hamilton, so maybe? As an RFA he doesn't really have any say, unless he's willing to sit out.

Honestly, if Ottawa is looking at the Oilers as a trade partner, I think it starts with Draisaitl and an unprotected first as well as Bouchard. Sens don't have a tonne of cap space either, so taking on an overpaid Draisaitl needs to have a sweetener. And they'll want some sort of defensive piece that is cheap, aside from Bouchard the Oilers don't have much in that category to offer, as I don't think anyone outside of mulletville believes Bear as a top pairing guy.

They just don't make sense as trade partners for a big piece like Karlsson.

The sens need a sweetener to take on a signed Draisaitl? I don't think so...plenty of teams would be happy to take him.

Draisaitl would actually make a ton of sense. With Stone and Duchene expiring as UFA's next year and no guarantee they would resign, the Sens would be getting a young asset signed long-term that can slide into their top-six. Nurse would likely get a top-two slot on the blueline (considering Ceci is their next best thing).

It actually makes a ton of sense for the Sens. Does it make sense for Karlsoon not in the slightest. Bet he wishes he could have gone to Florida instead of Hoffman.

If it made sense for any Canadian team to pay for 1 year of Karlsson its the Oilers. With him they are a competitive team, without him they will struggle to make the playoffs.

What doesnt make sense is the Sens taking less from a Canadian team because Karlsson is a rental.

Considering Ottawa is a near lock to finish 31st this season, and they're likely to trade Stone soon, the 1st round pick should probably be enough.

Makar + the 1st seems like massive overpayment.

The Sens will get as 1st from whoever they deal Karlsson to, whenever they deal him. Even if its only 3-4 teams that are actively in the mix, one of them is likely to add to that 1st to get things moving in their direction.

I'm referring to Ottawa's 1st round pick, which is currently controlled by Colorado. No team in the running to land Karlsson has a 1st with that kind of value.

Not to mention the added ‘save face’ value of that pick.

Isn't this pretty much standard operating procedure from new found insider stardom, at this point? There's been so many of these guys.
