Default AHL suspends Trevor Gillies for 12 games

http://theahl.com/ahl-announces-suspension-p194131

Quote:
The American Hockey League today announced that Adirondack Flames left wing Trevor Gillies has been suspended for twelve (12) games as a consequence of his actions in a game at Rochester on Oct. 10.

Gillies was suspended under the provisions of AHL Rule 28.1 (supplementary discipline).

Gillies will miss Adirondack’s next 12 scheduled games. He will be eligible to return to the lineup on Nov. 15 at Lake Erie.

Let some other guys play for Adirondack instead of that ridiculous goon.

At this point the Flames should just release him... What does he have left to add to the team down there?

Do we have to wait for the suspension to be served before we can release him?

Just watched the video for the first time- no excuses for what he did. I sometimes feel for a guy (not known to be dirty) who knees someone as it is often a split second decision gone wrong. This was simply Gillies out looking for someone to fight, finding a guy who grabbed onto him as what happens in every scrum and taking it too far by not only throwing punches but finishing with the slam.
I don't know much about his past... everyone wanting him released has me thinking this isnt the first time he has done something stupid?

On a side note, that ref did a horrible job by not jumping in the moment it was clear the other guy had no interest in fighting.

he was suspended in the NHL for 9 games for his role in this:

in his very first game (!!!) after this suspension, he did this and was immediately suspended for another 10 games:

there's no place neither in the NHL nor the AHL for a guy like this. Have him released already.

Seems like a weak suspension to me. I would have been content with at least a year but preferably a lifetime ban.

Well maybe he'll do something stupid in his return game too and suspend himself out of the lineup even more.

Or Huska should stop dressing him period.

fun fact: when Trevor Gillies went to Finland, he finished 3rd on his team in PIM. The catch: he only played 3 games that season.

I wish that the Flames would release him. It's a bit of a black mark in my opinion having someone like affiliated with our team.

scratch the "a bit of". I want to scream "have a little respect for yourself" into the faces of our management so badly.

Flashback to the Nov. 5, 1975 incident involving Dan Maloney of the Red Wings and Leafs Brian Glennie....

Quote:
On November 5, 1975 in a game between Detroit and Toronto, Dan pounced on Maple Leafs defenseman Brian Glennie from behind. He dropped Glennie with a punch, hit him several more times, then repeatedly lifted and dropped Glennie by the scruff of his neck, causing his head to strike the ice. Glennie was hospitalized with a concussion.

Dan was charged with assault to cause bodily harm for his attack. He was the first NHL player charged under the 1976 crackdown on hockey violence ordered by Ontario Attorney-General Roy McMurtry. Dan was eventually acquitted of the charges by a jury in this widely publicized two-week Toronto trial in the summer of 1976. However he wasn't allowed to play in Toronto for the next two years.
