So many shots. So few threats. The top line looked like men among boys out there. Every other line looked evenly matched. And that's before considering our terrible defensive pairs...

I agree with this as well.

Definitely more problems hurting the Flames than just Markstrom.

Moral victory there. The Flames really outworked and outplayed the Ducks pretty much all of the game, except when it counted the most. Bright side? The analytics will tell a different story than the scoreboard.

Thank god we lost though. We’re on a negativity streak that we can’t afford to end right now. If we won, what would people complain about? Ok still everything but it wouldn’t be the same.

I disagree, I think their PP has looked much stronger with a clear focus on putting pucks on net and good things will happen. Lots of power play opportunities, couldn’t bury on a great performance by Gibson.

This is going to be the Flames this year. Good underlying numbers, but no one that can finish. Goal scoring will be a major issue all year.

But blame the goalie

No movement on the PP. Get the pass, stand there like a stump on a log, make a pass. Rinse and repeat.

Is there a Stanley Cup of analytics?

Pretty much. A lot of high effort wins and losses. The margins are razor slim when you are trying to win 2-1 especially when you are losing the goaltending matchup.

Not to nit pick, but can we start using [PGT] and [GT] again? Seriously.

Anyways, they say you should win games with good possession numbers. That however doesn't account for the incredible boneheaded plays that these players make on a regular basis.

13, 44, 88, 19 and 20 were good tonight.

16, 16, 16 and 16 were horrible.

Happy that Coleman scored in his first game though. Seems like a good guy and a needed addition...

I'd sit Zadorov and toss in Kylington. Flames look good but no finish so far - Sutter's working some magic hopefully a few more games under his belt and the team will be clicking.

Not many high danger scoring chances created in the second half of that game.

Gonna be a looooong season.

Someone should tell Markstrom to start smoking. Smoking goalies are the best.

The last goal is absolutely on Markstrom. If he stacks his pads, it’s a save, full stop.

Drysdale wasn’t going to send that puck back through Gaudreau, he was going to wire it from 8 feet away.

Stack the pads.

I thought that was a pretty good game by Coleman, Gawdin, Lewis and Andersson. Mangiapane(minus the tying goal), Tkachuk and Gaudreau were amazing out there, both offensively and defensively.

It looked like Tanev was trying to do too much, and honestly I don't blame him. Zadorov was better than the first game, but he still looks off with some of his passing. Monahan wasn't bad, but he does look like he is either gassed or tries to conserve energy.

Overall, I liked the game, but I really hoped they could get the two points with the effort tonight. Onto the next one.
