Is he throwing out some sort of hybrid “live long and prosper” and shocker sign?

V for Vader

as in

"Its Vader time"

which would have been a better OP in this thread

I get the frustration….I really do, but lets see what Darryl can do. If the results are mediocre after 20 or so games then I think serious discussions should be happening (hopefully management has already had these discussions). Let’s night was frustrating. They played a decent game but losing to your top rival is never fun. Hoping the next few games can see what kind of character this group has and if there are parts worth keeping. Enjoy the ride for now. Being that it’s the Flames I’m sure it will be a bumpy one.

This thread is premature

Sutter came in mid year in a weird year.

Now he has had a camp and this is the beginning, not the end

We need 10-20 games before we see the new normal

100% agree but people are allowed to vent.

The posters that I find to be the most annoying, are the one censoring others views with drive bye postings(not you). A guy post his feelings in a post intended to start discussion and it turns into a beat down.

To be honest I watched the game and felt that the first two goals were pure luck and that the Flames effort level was okay. We just are not an offensively gifted enough group compared to the the players gifted to edmonton. We need more goals and I have no idea where we will find them. THAT is purely on Treliving.

Unfortunately, our top players did not have the same puck luck as the coilers. They never do. They've shown up when it doesn't matter. They fold up their tents in the big games and disappear. Rinse and repeat with these guys. I'd feel more hopeful with more rookies and other players via trade.

This core has not proven that they can rise to the occasion, therefore all criticism is permitted. Unless they begin to absolutely dominate teams in the next few months, posters will always feel anxious about this team.

Also Lewis feels like another one of those signings we will forget in two years time. He was horrible.

I get the frustration. This team has always started slow. This team has had a seemingly life long history of not playing full games or showing up ready. This team has a history of it's best players not being the best players.

Now we have a new coach who actually got to have a full training camp with the team and... game one had a lot of same old stuff. Some fans are going to need a meaningful display of progress and success to get out of this funk.

One game does not make or break a season but it sure felt like "here we go again..."

It's not the time.

The time was sometime in the offseason, but right now it's time to wait and watch the traditional slow motion faceplant happen. Then it's time again.

(Of course at this time of the year there's still a possibility that this season will not be another disappointment.)

Give it more time?

Time is relative?

This time they're serious?

I am not opposed to talking about a rebuild it has been shoehorned into almost every thread already so having a dedicated thread to rebuilding is fine.

There were certainly some fans who were locked and loaded and couldn’t wait to bump the fire Treliving thread and beat this rebuild drum after the Flames lose one game that we all knew they were goi g to lose already.

This team is at such a critical point in their direction. Go all in and get Eichel and extend Johnny and compete or tear it down and start new.

One thing they won’t do immediately is tear it down. Sutter is not hear for a tear down and rebuild so unless they punt on this direction early this year then don’t get your hopes up we see a shift to rebuild.

So you can want it and whine on this forum all you want that this team sucks and needs to tear it down but many on here understand that is just not logically a direction ownership is willing to take right now.

There should be a new "we need to rebuild" thread after every game!

But the time for change/chance to change has passed - It was the the offseason

What do you expect them to do after game 1 that they couldn't do in the offseason? Every team has filled out their rosters, spending to cap, etc

Few are saying "We are glad nothing changed" - We are realizing this is the team and direction they went.

They can't really pivot until close to the deadline where trading JG and MT could occur, etc.

Unless there is another team wanting to do a 3-3 blockbuster core trade after 1 game that didnt in the offseason

Come on 'stache, do you honestly think that Blake "####ing" Coleman is going to be a difference maker on this team? He's the 6th or 7th best forward on the team. If we're holding out for a hero in the form of a player that far down the lineup, we already know - deep down - what the outcome is going to be.

Also, it doesn't take 20 games to figure this stuff out, even though that is the same song and dance every year. "Just give us until game 20 to figure everything out, then stand back"... and see if we can dig ourselves out of the hole we've buried ourselves in. We need to figure this out now, beat the Ducks, and get on a roll right now. By game 20, it may already be too late.
