It's probably a little sad how invested I am in Eichel to the Flames as a fan.
It's essentially the determining factor whether I want the Flames to trade or re-sign Gaudreau and Tkachuk.
I don't see enough from this group as is, but adding Eichel would most likely significantly alter our path.

Where'd you see that they were close?

With the team not interested in a rebuild this is truly the only realistic path to building a true contender in my opinion. Add the elite franchise center in his prime.
Now that it has been reported by several people the Flames have been heavily in the mix, any result other than Eichel in Calgary will be disappointing and maddening as not being able to close trades has become a theme over the last 3 years.

Not that the Flames were close but the Sabres were close to trading him.

It is a crossroads of sorts, and yet we don't even yet know what paths are available to us, but if an "Eichel route" does manifest, it alters the course of this organization in a huge way.
Being left in the dark has sucked. I just want a resolution to this for peace of mind.

Jokes aside, those dots could very well be connected.
He did seem to be sat a game or two he shouldn't have been.

Also perhaps the Dube at centre tryout?

Nick Alberga on Twitter implied it was the Ducks who got really close last week.

I see that this Nick Alberga is a Sportsnet Analyst of some sort, does he have an inside scoop on these kind of deals? It's the first I've heard of him but I may be ignorant.

Maybe McTavish was the deal breaker? I know the Ducks are high on him but I don't think even they expected him to make the opening day roster and play as well as he has so far.
I hope Flames do everything they can to ensure that Eichel doesn't go to a division rival.

Suspect the Sabres were asking for one of Zegras, McTavish or Drysdale.
For which the answer was probably a firm no.
As it should be considering where Anaheim is in their rebuild.
Ducks are probably offering guys like Perreault plus picks.

He used to be on SiriusXM NHL Radio - I don’t think he’s anyone’s SureLoss, but there’s a decent chance someone who’s someone told him something.

I really don’t understand why the Ducks think they should be trading futures for Eichel right now. It makes no sense to me. They’re in the middle of a rebuild and so far it seems to be going okay for them. Why not just be patient with it?

I said this a few months ago and I will say it again. I never, ever think that my team is going to be the team that wins out in one these "sweepstakes", but I have a strange feeling that the Flames end up being the team that makes the move for Eichel.

Didn’t I read in this thread a quote something like that there were two teams the closest, Calgary and Anaheim and when asked about the Ducks the insider said “not very close at all”.
ETA: Post 4063 and not the Ducks - Vegas.

Because 1C is the biggest peice of the puzzle and eichel still has probably a decade of productive hockey in front of him.

The Ducks are a bit like the Flames in that they’re very reluctant to rebuild. They’ve been bad for years now, but Murray first uttered the word ‘rebuild’ only a few months ago. They’ve hung onto most of their vets like Fowler, Manson, Silfverberg, etc. They seem to be one of those franchises that sees making the playoffs every season as their goal.
And then there’s the fact Eichel is only 24 years old. It’s not as though he’ll age out before Zegras, Drysdale, etc become difference-makers.

True but they already have potentially a couple of pieces lined up: a #1 centre (Zegras), a #2 centre (McTavish) and a #1 D (Drysdale).
