Oilers 5 Flames 4 OT (Oilers win series 4-1)
Oilers 5 Flames 4 OT (Oilers win series 4-1)
- Flames blow 2-0 lead again
- Coleman go ahead no goal will cause some controversy.
- Top players (Markstrom, Tkachuk, Gaudreau) fail to make impact
- Team as a whole not urgent enough in an elimination game

Holland has been much maligned as Oilers GM but you have to admit his key additions were difference makers as Hyman and Kane had incredible series while Coleman and Toffoli did not. Seems like the Oilers were simply better organizationally on all levels as even Woodcroft outcoached Sutter.

I think Hyman was a good addition no question. And I thought so at the time.
I think Coleman had a really good series - I have no issues with him.
Kane is tricky. It was a desperate move by a desperate team, that ended up being great hockey-wise.
But from a human being point of view I think it is disgusting.

I disagree. He was passable at best. Had a key blunder that cost them a game earlier in the series. Nowhere near the playoff difference maker he was billed as. He's a player that doesn't hurt your team but he is being paid to be more than that and he wasn't.

Hyman seemed to have the book on Markstrom, how many times did Markstrom whiff on a shot from Hyman at his glove…at least 4 or 5 times.
Coleman should have had 5 points in the series and should have had the GWG last night (assuming the Flames don’t blow the lead)

Hey Bingo. Thanks for all your write ups this year. Have a great off season and after we all finish being upset we can start talking about next year.

the move to get kane really paid off in the short term for the oilers.
it will be interesting to watch smith in rd 3. against the flames he was clearly motivated and focused given the game 1 embarrassment and the whole markstrom angle.
i guess the flames now go back to another 6 or so years of mediocrity.......

Bingo, appreciate all the effort you put in for us Flames fans game in and game out, all season long.
Jiri, I would have signed Kane in a heartbeat.
And FWIW I'm on record as wanting to sign DeAngelo too.
If that makes me a terrible person so be it.
They are both still in the playoffs, the Flames are out.

Coleman was exactly as advertised, an elite play driver and edgy player that goes to the tough areas of the ice.
When he played with Jarnkrok that line rolled the Stars, when he moved to Backlund that line rolled the Stars and the Oilers.
Watching him closely this year ... he has terrible hands, that stands out. But the warrior side of the guy that they were looking for was in full attendance.

Appreciate it guys.
I do often wonder if the post game thread is a more important piece than the game story and that not many are reading it.

Hands were expected when the contract was submitted. That said only one year into a long deal and I expect he may be better next season after being better acquainted with the team and city. One has to wonder though if the Flames would have been better off trying a little harder to get Hyman instead as they could have used his finish.

Thanks for all the effort this year Bingo. I rarely comment in the thread, but your game takes are my first read after every game.
Have to give the Oilers credit. They played really well and showed lots of resiliency. We may not have been able to win 3 in a row, but that's a tough pill. I wasn't a bit surprised when they called that back, I was gobsmacked. Worst call ever.

The stench of disappointment will fade in the coming days/weeks and I would hope most fans come to the realization that this was a really fun season that just didn't end as well as hoped which is the reality for fans of 31 teams every season. I enjoyed the season and look forward to seeing how the offseason plays out as there are lots of ways this can go.

To me the PGT is either exuberance or venting. Your take and the resulting thread is for more sober reflection and analysis. I like the duality.

Yeah but if there is any part of society that continues to accept terrible human beings it's athletics. Kane will be rewarded for his on ice skill no matter how terrible of a human he is off ice.

Keith looked good too. No glaring mistakes, cool under pressure to get the puck up to the forwards.

Good summary Bingo.
It's a weird feeling that I'd be less annoyed with the Flames dropping out of the playoffs had they lost last round to Dallas in game 7 instead.

Not me.
When a season is done, and you look back after a few days I much prefer to see Calgary as the 7th best team in the playoffs, than the 13th or 14th.
That and I'll always have game seven overtime at the dome with my 20 year old son. Crazy memory.
