Isn’t that what VAR is for?
Pretty clear that it should have been a penalty there.

Italy havent exactly been blowing anyone's doors off either.
The first match is often very cagey.

they haven't, but it's not easy with Turkey parking the bus. Not pretty.

Are you insinuating that the Turkish Manager is just Jose Mourinho wearing those fake glasses and moustache?

One clear penalty.
The universe is punishing Italy for zero creativity right now.

I like it, as long as they handle these handball situations consistently like that.

The trip in the box was clear, as was the handball.
Both of those get called most of the time, especially with VAR.
I agree with Devo though. As long as that’s the consistent standard for the tournament I’m fine with it, but that’s probably not going to happen.

Don't think that was a trip, the Italian players didn't even complain.
On the handball VAR should have called down to have the ref have a 2nd look. Defender is saved by distance. Just too close to the struck ball to get arms out of the way. And yes, let's see if this is the standard.

Time to see if Turkey can even muster a shot on target.

It was clearly a trip.
The Turkey defender tries to make a tackle from behind and you see clear contact to the back of the Italian attackers foot.
I'm fine with the handball if that's going the be the standard but generally if your arm is away from your body it gets called, even if it's close distance or not.

Chiellini is fun to watch. On the wing, in attack, in midfield ... dude pops up everywhere. At 36.

Pretty good start for Italy.
Not the prettiest game but Turkey was very sound defensively in qualifying and took 4 points off France, so a 3-0 win is a good showing for the opening match for Italy for sure. Italy was patient though and took their chances when they came.
Tomorrow's Schedule
7:00AM MT - Wales vs Switzerland
10:00AM MT - Denmark vs Finland
1:00 PM MT - Belgium vs Russia
No real "bangers" in tomorrow's schedule but both Wales-Switzerland and Belgium-Russia should be good games. Belgium won't have De Bruyne so that game may be closer.

Tomorrow's game against Denmark is Finland's (men's) first ever game at this level, and the game they likely have the best chance to win. Can't wait
