Heading down to Palm Springs around Christmas for the first time this year. Looking to play 3 rounds. Anyone have any suggestions or courses to avoid? Green fees aren’t a huge concern.

How’s the golf around there time anyway?

Courses should be out of overseed by then.

Silver Rock is excellent. Ram's Hill is a bit of a drive, but is a decent track.

Classic Club is garbage, avoid at all costs.

i noted that i coudl get tee times at the play golf calgary coruses thru the weekend.

i'd imagine there was lengthy frost delays this morning though as in the deep south is was -7 this morning with a decent layer of frost.

I celebrated the end of golf seaosn over the weekend by using up some golf town gift certificates to buy new shoes. I opted for spikeless nike shoes, so it will be nice not to have to deal with replacing or losing spikes

I have a reservation at the new Launchpad golf facility on Sunday. Hopefully it is a good experience. We plan on trying a virtual round on the system.

I think I could maybe stomach that for $150. Thanks!

Turned out to be a great afternoon for golf. Course was packed as members and green fee players looked to get their last round of golf in. Hopefully the weather co operates for tomorrow.

Tried the new Launchpad golf and it was very good. It will be fun to go there with buddies. We tried a virtual round on the system and my only complaint is that it was tough to keep the shots on line. Even when I hit right on target it was tracking my shot to the left of the fairway. Maybe there was a bit of a calibration issue or something. Putting in the virtual round was very tough as the targets to hit seemed really small.

Broke 80 for the first time ever! It was a bittersweet round. Shot a 78, but with sudden gale force winds I actually tripled, bogeyed and doubled the last 3 holes (it was insane, like 6 iron on a usual 9 iron par 3 crazy).

If things kept up as the round had been going I was basically par, but weather is part of golf and no matter how crazy it got that's your score.

The way I look at it is I gave my myself an incredible cushion to break 80 with the first 16 holes. Putting has been incredible for me for awhile now and it was the driver of that round. 3 birdies and 3 pars from 10+ feet, one from off the green, and nothing missed from within 5 feet.

Curious on what people have setup for home practice?

I've been looking around for Mats / Nets / Launch monitor, but it's starting to look pricey for something decent. Reading around, I see these as potential mats

https://fiberbuiltgolf.com/collectio...single-hitting

https://www.customdesigngolf.com/div...rade-mats.html

And then the Garmin R10 - which is still out of stock

I haven't looked at nets yet, but one key is finding a net that can take a Driver hit. Otherwise I'm only practicing Irons, but if I'm spending a good chunk of money on this, I might as well be able to hit driver.

Sounds like you're on the right path. I was going to mention to get a good, soft matt. That Fibrebuilt one gets good reviews.

Hitting off hard, cheap matts is just asking for elbow and shoulder injuries.

I just have a putting mat at this point, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a launch monitor/mat/net and set something up in the garage this winter. I am not 100% sure for a few reasons, but I think that's the direction I'm heading.

I'd recommend using a driver instead.

Booked a time for 4 at Speargrass on Thursday.

Last round of the year for me and my golfing buds.

I bought the optishot 2 last year and built out a full simulator cage in my office.
I really need to use it a lot more though to be honest. Not getting my money's worth on it yet.
