18 is still pretty young. There's a huge difference in maturity from an 18 year old to even a 22 year old, let alone a 34 year old.
Legal or not I still feel he took advantage of someone who was younger and naive while in a position of power.

Ok you need to separate what Chu did from the general idea of it. You're conflating the two and I clearly separated them because you made a generalization in your original post.
What Chu did was wrong on every level. She was underage, he was a cop, he was in a position of authority, he was on the job, he was there to perform a duty related to his job.
In general though, you need to get this idea out of your head that every 34 year old that has sex with an 18 year old is a disgusting creep. You act like it's a one way street. You know the woman has a choice in it too right? Who are you to judge her for her decisions in who she has sex with? It's not right that your mind instantly assumes that it must be the man that made the move and is a creep. Maybe the young woman who has full self determination and sexual agency wanted to be with an older man. Is she a creep for thinking that way? Has she not been raised right? Why are you making judgements on the autonomy she has over her body? Should all young women come to you to seek permission to have sex with partners? At what age are they able to make decisions for themselves or will you decide to control their bodies for their entire lives?

She was, but some people are arguing that even if he thought she was 18 that it was still immoral.

More than that. That any 34 year old man that has relations with an 18 year old is a creep.
In Chu’s situation more than age was a factor. It’s wrong on multiple levels.

A high rise building has less roads, sidewalks, pipe, etc to maintain comparable to the number of single family homes. I’m just saying that there’s no “fair” way to assess taxes based on usage because different types of homes have different needs irrespective of their value.

If she was 18, then who cares. It's two consenting adults doing something completely legal.
But she wasn't 18, so it's pretty cut and dry in my mind.

It still doesn't matter though. Even if she was 18, he was a UNIFORMED COP with a gun (and apparently the gun was involved somehow?? gross). Whether she's 16, 18, or 52, consent doesn't exist in that situation.

And not only this but the good ol boys at CPS at the time may have brushed it under the rug with a sealed report and allegations that did not look good for the police force. If there is truth to those claims, they basically enabled him to have a long political career and taxpayer funded pension when his name should have been in the dumpster long before this election. Sean Chu has been skating by on his reputation as a cop for years now.

This hit me years back, one time at the Jameson's in Brentwood. Me and a buddy were politely chatting up our waitress, who mentioned she was in school. We presumed she was a UofC/SAIT/MRU student and asked what her major was.
She said, "Oh, no, I'm going to summer school to do academic upgrading to get into post-secondary. "
She was 19.
Doing the mental math, we realized she was barely half our ages...

If its found that the police force did the usual cover for their own, it provides even more ammo to people who want substantial police reform.

I think Cecil is saying it isnt just age.
He was a cop.
He was in uniform.
He was in a position of trust and authority
He was to drive her home and instead drove her to his house.
his gun was somehow involved
These are all red flags; and to add to that, Chu is now in a position of even more power and trust with equal fiduciary and moral duties.

Property tax is actually a flat tax (ie. a constant mill rate), and is one of the most fair taxes you could levy. It is inherently progressive, as it only hits people that have the resources to own land, and you can choose exactly how much tax you pay regardless of your income level based on what property you buy.
At the same time, City Services are very very rarely means-tested, and arguably you would use the services proportionate to the tax that you pay - with a larger house, you use more of the distribution systems, you likely have a car, you use the sports programs for kids and so forth.
Basically, I get it - from an income tax perspective I feel the exact pain that you are feeling. I pay quite a bit of income tax, and get basically nothing in return (other than the "stable society" argument) because everything is means-tested. I just think property tax is not the same and doesn't deserve as much criticism as you are putting on it.

She was 16 when the assault took place. He'd met her when she was 14 though.

I wish this thread would die, but Chu is like a cockroach.
Maybe this is the buildup to the climatic finish, and he will be forced to leave the seat. Would be a dramatic way to end this thread.
