I don't think it provides access to any specific funding but the article mentions it could bring capital to Calgary. In other words, if they declare this climate emergency maybe they will be able to attract capital from industry or markets or elsewhere if they can market Calgary as a green innovation hub.

If the action allows for new funding/investment, or champions actual and meaningful innovation to diversity and add new dimensions to the energy sector, I can see the potential benefit. I think it can be done without following the melodramatic declarations of cities who have no skin in the energy-sector game, but I guess if it's what greases the wheels of investment, I guess you have to play the game.

Well the world has moved toward ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Investing. The money is there, no question. A city making this declaration is of absolutely no consequence though. If she’s referring to that, she’s just plain wrong.
I guess I just thought there was more to this though. Like if that’s actually her first priority, I would hope there’s some substance there. I mean sure, I was happy to vote for her to keep Farkas out. But vapid proclamations weren’t quite what I had in mind either.

Given that the information about Chu came to light after early voting and before electin day, there should be a legitimate method to challenge the vote based on the circumstances.
Elected Representatives should be held to highest standards of conduct, period. I can't believe that the Elections Act doesn't contain provisions for ethical standards. I still can't believe that someone like Kevin Johnson could still have his name on the ballot.
The timing of the news about Chu is all a little suspect to me. My belief is that police and judges are all compromised to some degree. Any time there is an investigation into police or lawyers they should be done by a separate jurisdiction to maximize impartiality.

I noted today that 5eh PM tweeted out congrats to bothe mayors in calagary and Edmonton. Don’t recall his account doing that. While this could be some new found thing of his, I can’t help but wonder if he sees trying to get the mayors aligned as some type of in for him in Alberta.

I think we need to be really careful with how people can be removed from office.
Having generic ethics clause would be ripe for abuse just look at how sports teams use them to get out of cap hits hits like the kings did with Mike Richards.
At some point you have to accept democracy results in some flawed outcomes but those flawed outcomes protect democracy.

Other levels of Government almost always congratulate one another for their wins. There's no conspiracy here.

I'm usually of the opinion that social media stories like that are either:
1) Greatly exaggerated by the poster (maybe they did it once with someone they knew or something)
2) A complete lie
It's all about the likes folks!

It’s terrifying that a significant number of educated adults evidently get their news from Twitter.

He's an Independent Fact Checker, and a doctor, and a registered trademark. If you can't trust someone like that, who can you trust?
