Default Game Takes: Ducks 3 Flames 2 (OT)

Ducks 3 Flames 2 (OT)

- Flames out shoot and out play the Ducks
- Find a way to lose again, this time in overtime
- Coleman looks good
- Andersson emerges
- Second pairing struggles.

"It’s way more exciting to see a young player with upside get a chance than a tired out old warhorse with very little surprises expected."

Watching Zadorov is not boring right now, I'll say that. he's big on the surprises.

Zadorov is also 2 years older than Kylington, it’s not like he has a decade on him. That said the 2nd pairing is bad right now, no way to mask or excuse it.

Andersson - Zadorov was terrible in preseason. Will we see Zadorov sit for a game? or a Valimaki - Zadorov pairing with Gudbranson sitting? It looks like Sutter is giving Z every chance to get better, but sooner or later Sutter will have to adjust.

Maybe it's just me but as bad as zadorov was, I think tanev was just as bad. Buzz needs to get in there to create some offense from the back end. Our 2 best D have been Andersson and Gudbranson, I know it's only been 2 games but change it up a bit moving forward.

Agreed on Andersson. Have some optimism about that pair moving forward. I thought Gaudreau was excellent all night as well.

"So it was good to see some Darryl Sutter comments clarifying why Kylington is scratched tonight."

Sorry, I missed this. Anyone have a link?

Also, holy crap, Zadorov -- I counted four times he floated it up the middle in his own zone, and at least one of them was a no-look backhander with just Ducks there to receive it.

If that had been Valimaki, he would have been stapled to the bench. But Zadorov kept playing. If he's really the best we can do in the top 4, we're in trouble.

So apparently, Marner did a similar move last year to what Tkachuk did last night

Starting around the 3:10 mark. He just said that none of our 8 D have distinguished themselves, so he’s gonna get to play.

I worry the legendary Chris Tanev comes back to earth. Which would be OK if Markstrom plays like he did the year before he was signed. I would take that trade off.

Offense from the back end is going to be hard to come by although in both games, Flames were excellent in getting out of their own zone. Except when puck was on Zadorov’s stick.

Tanev can’t be himself when he constantly has to keep an eye on and cover for Zadorov

It looks to me like Zadorov needs to get his head in the game. Instead, he let the game get into his head.

I think he's exactly as he's advertised.

Excellent in blocking out opponents, protecting the paint and keeping danger to a minimum.

But terrible at distributing pucks and contributing to getting the puck out of his end and up to his teammates.

He made a couple of giveaways that no NHL player should make. He doesn't have to be good at distributing the puck tape to tape, but he can't be doing that.

Straight up the middle blind passes in his own end is a play no peewee defenceman should make. I counted 4 of those throughout the game. Mind-bottling he wasn't sat.

I literally gasped out loud at the last one -- no-look backhand pass from the corner into the high slot with the Flames still leading 2-1. It went straight to a DUck and Markstrom had to make a great save. Zadorov should never touch the puck. That's a problem.

They really should give Kylington-Tanev or Valimaki-Tanev a go tomorrow.

I know Gudbranson has been better than advertised so far but Zadorov-Gudbranson still makes me a little nervous though.

Sit Z?
