Perry's 139 point season is comparable to Poiriers in terms of age.
No, I'm not.

Perry was drafted in 2003. So 03/04 would be the best comparable to Poirier this year.

This really isn't true anymore.

Just a random slot.. but the 20th scorer in the Q has 54 points, in the WHL has 55 points and in the OHL has 61 points.

Poirer's 66 points rank him 8th in the Q, it would be 5th in the WHL and 8th in the OHL.

Porier is a late birthday so he was drafted a year later than Perry.

However, his problem was a frustrating lack of finish.

I will say this again: Lombardi is an very, VERY poor comparable player from which to project expectations for Poirier. Poirier has similar skating abilities, but he is bigger, stronger, handles the puck better, is a better shooter and passer, and thinks the game at a higher level. Poirier is better in practically every respect than Lombardi was, and it's not even that close.

I don't share macrov's projection of Poirier as a franchise winger. My point in posting was to show how utterly horrible your comparison was between Poirier and Lombardi. If Poirier turns out to be not much better than Lombardi, then we should consider this pick something of a bust. The good news is that he has everything going for him to suggest that he will be a top-six winger.

Just a terrible, terrible comparison.

I disagree. Based on his skill set and his development curve to date, we should expect Poirier to be a top six winger, with the potential to be a top-line—perhaps even elite—winger. We should not expect less than this, and if he tops out on the third line, people should be disappointed.
I feel this is suggesting Lombardi was not a top six player. During his prime years of 2008-2010, he was definitely a top six player for both us and the 'Yotes. Heck, it could be argued our top six never recovered in 08-09 when we traded him for Jokinen. He put up 46 points in 69 games that year, and the 53 in 78 the next year. Unfortunately concussions killed the potential he was beginning to show.

First round picks (especially outside the top ten) are not guarantees, and I may not be as old as most of you, but I remember the hype we had around Lombo when he put up 120 points in the Q in 01-02.

My point is we need to temper expectations on our prospects. And if Poirier turns into a more consistent Matt Lombardi with more grit and better hands, we'll have a great player on our hands.

Yes, but there is less than 6m from poiriers Dec bday to Perry's May bday...so while neither comparison is perfect, its more correct to compare 03-04 perry to 13-14 poirier.

You said it was Perry's 20 year old season he never played in his 20 year old season so yes you are wrong.

If you want to make up parameters to fit your argument fine but don't say it was Perry's 17 18 19 20 year old seasons when those are totally wrong.

<removed>

At the end of the day, I made the right comparison

<removed crude comments>

One player turned 19 in December, the other in May. That's less than 6 months apart, so I compared relative to their draft years, which is the norm for most player comparisons and less biased. <removed insult> And technically the knights went far enough into the playoffs that Perry probably turned 19 during that season.

<removed trolling>

Perry never played in the OHL as an overager.

There's no debate about that.

I am not sure what your point is here or why you need to get personal but as albert said he never played his 20 year old season in the OHL as you said he did. That isn't me saying stuff to make me happy it is a fact that can't be debated.

Most people compare seasons of guys at the same age i.e. 19 year old season to 19 year old season because in junior the age of the players are quite important and is why we see undrafted 20 year olds put up huge numbers and then do nothing else with their careers.

Looked OK, not outstanding. I was surprised he wasn't chosen to be one of the shooters in a very long shoot-out.

Poirier also matched last years point totals (70) tonight in 17 fewer games!

His 4th goal might have been the GOTY in the CHL! It was that good!
