Suck it Vancouver, WestJet is moving the summer seasonal flight to Whitehorse to YYC this year. 4x weekly service.

"As we continue to expand our Calgary hub, it makes sense to move the service from Vancouver to Calgary to offer residents of Whitehorse more destinations via YYC Calgary International Airport. This is also an opportunity for residents to fly non-stop to Calgary, and this summer will also see an increase to our seasonal service from three times weekly to four times weekly."

We’re losing our 2x weekly Cathay Pacific Cargo flight. Last flight March 24th, and then that leaves us with only one scheduled 747 service with Cargolux.

WestJet's summer schedule is adding 72 more weekly flights out of YYC, mainly frequency increases on existing routes. YYC-MEX, YYC-DEN, and YYC-YKF are the new flights that will start up during this time.

This increase makes YYC once again the largest WestJet hub (Toronto was for a bit).

Would love to see direct flights from YYC to Baltimore/DC one day.

72 flights per week (> 10 per day) is pretty significant.
Montreal goes to almost 3x daily
Halifax goes to >2x daily
Zero change to Toronto (kind of surprising?)
Hourly service to Vancouver and increase to practically the same to Edmonton.

Interesting to see Paris from Halifax. Wonder if they might be testing the waters for future widebody service from other cities?

Didn't this only start up a few years ago? If so, that didn't last too long.

I am so surprised Calgary to DC direct isn't already a thing. We have (had?) our our trade office there specifically, plus access to tons of government and industry folks. Not to mention that Washington is a beautiful place to visit.

Why Baltimore though?

Baltimore only because it's the busiest Airport in the region. Both Dulles and BWI are about 40 minutes from downtown DC, so either one of those is good. Obviously Reagan would be best, but I think that airport is already at capacity.

If for logistical purposes, I get it. Sort of similar to flying to Newark even though most people fly there to go to New York.

Do you know if Delta is going to bring back their daily morning flight to SLC? It was really convenient.

First flight was October 18, 2014. So it didn't quite make it a full four years.

What kind of shipping do they do? Sounds like they got into the Calgary market at the absolute worst time.

That's not exactly how pipe design works...

If water in the line freezes and expands, there's not many other places for it to go other than outwards, and that means broken pipes.

I wonder if that might come as Delta/WestJet firm up their partnership starting in 2019.

I do believe this could be a good candidate for Delta's C Series jets once they start getting them.

Yes and no, both Cargolux and Cathay were shipping horse meat but we also get the odd charter cargo flight (usually a 747) that ships the live horses non-stop to Japan for consumption there too.

If anyone asked me earlier if I thought the planes were being used to ship horse meat for human consumption to Japan, I would have thought you were crazy.

Basashi it is.
