Default Alex Jones finally pulled from several major online media sites

About ####ing time.

We'll have to see how long this lasts. I'm guessing as soon as these platforms, specifically Facebook and YouTube, feel people aren't paying attention anymore, or if he follows a modicum of behavioural change, he'll be back.

Apple Inc, YouTube, Facebook Inc and Spotify all took down podcasts and channels from U.S. conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, saying on Monday that the Infowars author had broken community standards.
Quote:
Facebook said it removed the pages "for glorifying violence, which violates our graphic violence policy, and using dehumanizing language to describe people who are transgender, Muslims and immigrants, which violates our hate speech policies."

Infowars editor-at-large Paul Joseph Watson said in a tweet that the broad takedowns amounted to censorship and were intended to help Democrats in the national election this fall.

Maybe not, but apparently for Jones, inciting violence and calling the grieving parents of murdered children crisis actors doesn't end in the result you want either.

#### him.

it was probably a political decision, those are all hard left leaning platforms and didn't Hillary blame infowars for costing her the election (among a dozen other things)?

#### him.
It doesn't and yes Alex Jones is despicable but there a lot of people who also do many of those things who won't see the same fate - so it's very much political and highly subjective. That is not say that some of things Alex Jones says is subjective as illustrated by your example but in comparison it very much is.

"Hard left leaning platforms"?

I consider them primarily extremely capitalist in that making money is the priority, not advancing social causes.

You can be both. See Naomi Klein/Michael Moore eta

Youtube is notorious for constricting right leaning pundits and its current algorithm pushes viewers towards left leaning main stream media (the trending page seems to always be half of these). These companies are also physically located in silicon valley which is a nexus of hard left politics.

Hard left leaning? Have you been on YouTube in the last 3 years?

When you're going after the parents of murdered six year olds, you're not being censored. You're being put in the corner where you belong.

So much wrong in this post. YouTube's algorithm pushes you to similar content you've watched. And notorious for constricting right leaning pundits? This is laughably incorrect.

Silicon valley also isn't a hard left political nexus. Maybe Apple, like publically, but the actions are these companies when it's not in public is very much right leaning. They're massive corporations, they feed image so it doesn't hurt their bottom line, but in the end it's the bottom line. Dude, what are you even on about?

It’s a slippery slope but I think I’m okay with this one. Alex Jones is a trash human being.

It’s not even that slippery of a slope. He’s violated community standards repeatedly over a period of YEARS and, using YouTube as an example, he remained mostly unpunished.

This year alone he’s violated YouTube community standards 3 times. So he’s not only a trash human being who deserves getting pulled, he’s a trash human being who deserved it 5+ years ago, but was left on to appease right-wing users.

As an aside, it seems like a couple posters need to realise that free speech does not absolve you from staying within the rules of the online communities you participate in.

are you really arguing that a corridor that extends from san Jose to san fransisco isn't hard left leaning? In the wake of the Damore memo it came out that these companies lean hard left and employees with right leaning politics lived in fear of being found out.

You're confusing PR with actual political leanings.

And yes, I'm arguing they not hard left leaning because if they were, they wouldn't have allowed movements like Alex Jones and the alt right to be birthed and flourish on their platforms. They do not care about politics, they care about money and optics.

People in silicon valley can be hard left, but the companies as monolithic corporations aren't.
