Why do people wait so long to move out? I always wanted a place of my own to come and go as I pleased with no one to answer to.

I had that, but it was free.

You're never alone when your friend Jack is around.

I moved out at 21 and lived on my own for a year while I went to university in Abbotsford. But then my parents moved down to Abbotsford and they said I could live with them until I finished my degree. I'm 23 now and I'll be done my degree in December. Then, once I get a good job, I'll be moving out.

I was 20 when I moved out to take a job out of town. My mom to this day would still let me move back home though.
I knew a lot of others my age who never wanted to pay rent a day in their life, made over $20 an hour (in the 90's in BC when that wasn't a ###### bag wage either) but would blow $350 at the bar on a Friday night, and still lived at home. I don't think my Dad would have let that one go. He'd have been pissed I didn't spend that money golfing. In hindsight, it did prepare me though, as trying to make ends meet on $10 an hour taught me to be frugle. Prepared me for a future, of crappy earnings, but still allow me to eat!

I think things were a lot different for us. My first place in 91 cost me a whopping $300/mth including heat/cbl/water. Even though I was making $8.50 an hour driving a forklift, and delivering pizzas for Toms House of Pizza, it still left me some cash to have some fun. Different times.

26. I decided I wasn't going to waste my money paying someone else's mortgage so it took me that long to make the 20% down payment after buying my first car after graduating university. In hindsight I shouldn't have spent so much on my car.
21 if you count the first time I moved away for internship for a year and half.

I was 20 when I moved out and was making just over $9/h. Now days there's no way in hell you could survive off that, but when I moved out it was a renter's market.

Went away for Uni (also Australian, apparently) moved out after several months at home upon my return. So I was 22? Maybe 23. But had not "lived at home" since 18 and going away for school.

Not ashamed to admit, I didn't move out till I was almost 29, and saved 20% for downpayment on my house.

24 when I left for grad school - my parents gave me free room and board while I was doing my B.Sc. so I would've been crazy to pass that up. Briefly moved back at 26 while looking for a job and for a month when I was 30 because the condo I had bought wasn't finished on time but the lease on my apartment was up, but those times I couldn't wait to get out (even though my parents let me have my space/privacy) since I was too used to being on my own.

I moved out at 17 to go to college.
Not only should you move out, but move far enough away that they can't get to you without at least a six hour drive. Remove yourself from their influence and become your own person.
Having said that, statistic of the day, 80% of Italian males under 30 years of age live with their parents.

Moved out at 20, then back in at 28, for a year or so when my dad died to help my mom out.

At 19, I drove from Calgary to UWO, around the north shore of Lake Superior. Never went that way again.

Was able to come and go as I pleased and was fed every day (even had lunches packed for me for work) decided it was a good idea to buy a house and move out. Still miss the free rent and good food.

First year of College was 2 months after I turned 18 so then, but I then lived at home for a few summers while saving up for school, last year I officially lived at home for any length of time was age 21.

Moved acrss the country for university at the age of 17 and never moved back.
I have a couple friends my age(25) that are out of school, making good money and still living at home. Blows my mind.

By cooking whatever I want, cleaning whenever I want, listening to what I want, etc, etc, etc.
Seriously - living alone is an amazing thing.
Don't feel like wearing pants? Don't!
Wanna listen to Radio Albania? Go for it!
Curious to see if you can cook a curry? Give it a whirl!
Wanna bring home a "Less than lovely" without ridicule? No problem!
It's a great life. If you're lonely, call a friend.

I think I have a totally different idea of "do what I want" than some of you.
Doing what I want included
- heavy drinking 5 nights a week
- multiple girlfriends
- weed
- sleeping in until noon
- barely holding a job
- letting anyone I met crash on the floor
- smoke cigarettes in my underwear
Even doing one of the above when I was at home would have had me thrown out.
