i've been hoping for that myself...

it's like a black hole opens up at about 3 - 3:30 pm and all the Car2go that were downtown migrate out to the periphery...

i would imagine that 50-75% of those cars just end up not being used until the morning commute into the downtown.

I totally agree that Car2go would be wise to have a dedicated fleet just to serve the core and inner city neighborhoods... i think they'd be used at a higher % than those taken out to the suburbs after office hours.

Looks like they are closing up shop as of October 31st according to the app.

Anyone hear why?

It looks like they're pulling out of most of their North American markets. Only Vancouver, Seattle, Washington, NYC, and Montreal will remain.

That's odd because I thought Calgary was one of their more-successful markets.

It will be a matter of time that the likes of Lime and Bird will pull out of Calgary too, give it like 2 or 3 more years I would think. The demands are just not there. It is fun to ride the scooters for a couple of times as a toy, but then it is just pretty meh. Plus the sh*tty weather we get here for like 9 months of the year makes riding not that fun.

Uber has definitely put a dent in things for them.

I loved C2G when they first came out but have to admit, I just end up calling an Uber now. I hated the game of trying to find hidden cars and finding an acceptable parking spot afterwards.

My exact thoughts too, with uber being so fast and convenient, I went from a multiple times a week user to it's been over 6 months since i've used one.

I loved using C2G and I'm quite upset that they're going.

However, there's no way that they were making money. The fact that a small fortwo costs the same per minute to use as a lime scooter, with orders of magnitude difference in costs - and of course considering C2G is way faster than lime, your trips end up being shorter as well.

Have you seen their numbers? What is your precedent for saying this?

That news is huge and very unfortunate. I have only used it personally a handful of times, but always liked having that option there. And I know that many, many others used the service extensively, and I thought that the city had a pretty good relationship with them.

“We firmly believe that Calgary deserves free-floating carshare. Despite our best efforts over the years encouraging the city to implement policy that better supported carshare...”
This kind of rhetoric bothers me. At least provide some information on what exactly it is that the City should have changed? I can’t say I’m aware of any challenge they faced by the city, and if they want to throw that out as a primary factor, at least point to an actual issue. Failure to thrive in a business environment is not automatically the result of poor policy and overbearing governance.

You'd have thought that just changing the zones would make a difference. Guess not. I use car2go a lot, actually, in both the smart vehicles and the Benz ones. This has the potential to cause me some issues...

The only jurisdictional issue I can think of is how parking works. If they had to pay to be parked downtown then I can see that as a huge cost and conflict with the city. Outside of that I don’t see where they would have issues with the city.

Likely parking and towing costs.

This is great news. Those cars take up a lot of good street parking downtown. Welcome more open spots during the working week.

Ugh, do not like. I use C2G a lot and love driving myself to places instead of Uber/Taxi.

Maybe an influx of used white vehicles in car dealerships at some point.

I kinda expected this when it was announced that Smart cars wouldn’t be sold in North America. It sucks though. Hopefully something replaces it.

Yeah I think tickets were a big thing. Around my building you would see a CPA guys just walk and write tickets down the entire block of C2Gs daily.
