This is CP, we read too much into everything. We need to formulate reasons to make us accept another failed season.

Good thing he has his name on his forehead or no one would recognize him.

Jesus I had no idea Bennett and I shared the same hairline these days. Didn't recognize him at all, and it wasn't just the lack of beard

Interesting, Bennett shaved his beard. Given up already, huh? Wow. Says a lot about the player. And a grey t-shirt? Flames colour is red, bud, clearly a sign of someone not committed to the team.

Gaudreau - Bennett - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - 700K dude - 700K dude

If Johnny really is open to staying, you keep him and figure it out.

Its fine to have a massive love in within the locker room. But Treliving really needs to step up and make some decisions and execute them. Another season of this and I'm likely done watching hockey . I only watch Flames games and I'm not going through last year again.

He has said this before but people like to blow out of proportion what he said about the team he cheered for growing up on a radio station and then twisted it to fit their agenda of running the guy out of town. I mean Crosby once said it would be cool to play for the Canadiens as a fan growing up but he stays loyal to the Pens. What Tavares did is the exception, not the norm.

In other words, he wants a long-term deal.

The frustrating lack of results are there, but in the end though I imagine Tree won't tear down what he's spent 6 years building (yet).

If he views Talbot/Rittich as the tandem he's been looking for, and Hall as the winger he's tried to acquire every season for the last 3 years - I think he'll keep the team together, including Johnny if the flight risk is reduced, and make his final push with the group.

If he does keep things together and tries to add to it my biggest hope is that Gaudreau and Monahan are split up. I think Monahan needs to get away from pretending he's some finesse finisher and get on with grinding and battling for pucks and I'm not sure he does that with Johnny on his wing.

I would love this group to be part of the answer and finally bring some playoff success to Calgary.

Unfortunately, i haven't seen anything that makes me believe that this is possible with this group.

I think all the players are being honest in their comments, but saying is a lot different than doing.

Should be an interesting off season

Yeah. I can’t believe people are jumping on the to be honest thing. Have you heard hockey interviews or any interviews? It is such a common filler and is better than the ahhhs and ummms.

I absolutely wouldn’t mind gaudreau being next year at all. He just can’t be “the” guy on the team, and that is a difficult fix. Monahan has not panned out the way we expected, but he is also a serviceable too 6. The issue is we need a bonafide top line star center, and those are difficult to come by, so Treliving has his work cut out. I’d rather the cap that is going to be spent on Hall if we do try to get him, he used on a center, bus those are not easy to come by, whatsoever

Monahan on a second line, Backlund on the third, makes the same team deeper and more dangerous, but we need to move someone to get someone, if the goal is retooling.

Being a shorter offseason management/coaching/player decisions will come out sooner than the regular offseason though

No doubt in my mind that this is a good group of people who seem to get along very well. And I really have no issue with their effort this post season.

This is a tough business.

If we can't get a king's ransom for Gaudreau, the idea of going all in by signing Hall for a loaded top 6 and just running with a cheap/young defence is intriguing too.

Re-sign Rieder for the 4th line, promote an AHL kid. Trade Ryan if needed.

Yep, I think this is the best play and likely what happens if we are able to sign Hall. Take some of the pressure away 5 on 5 from Gaudreau and Monahan and form two top scoring lines. Have to keep building.

Hall - Bennett - Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Dube - Backlund - Mangiapane

That is great looking top 9. Could really attack teams in waves and create a match up nightmare.

If we're analyzing speech, I would think that if Johnny's desire was to go back home, he might have said something along the lines of,"It's out of my control", "Tre is going to do what he feels will improve the team", "I can't stop trade rumours", "maybe a change is needed".....
What he said made me believe, at least momentarily, that he really does want to stay here.
