Targets should be:

Rasmus Ristolainen (1st in the league for hits by a defenceman)
Radko Gudas (12th in the league for hits by a defenceman)
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (21st in the league for hits by a defenceman)
Have always hoped that Gudas could be a Flame. That's the kind of grit we need in the playoffs.

Risto being #1 was the big shock to me. He may be an all around bad defenceman, but at least he hits!

Would anyone consider something like this? Maybe the Flames put something else in like Kylington and the Sabres add something like Montour or Mittlestadt

Monahan + Gio

Cozens, Risto + 8th OA

I'd do that. Don't think the Sabres would.

Monahan would give them one of, if not the best 2nd line C to play behind Eichel and Gio would be a great mentor for Dahlin. They get rid of Risto since it seems they want him out and they get the player they hope Cozens could be. The 8thOA is the cost of upgrade lol.
The Sabres have a ton of cap space and this adds 2 established pieces that make the Sabres more relevant. This would signal a rebuild though.

I don't know. As someone who (very very wrongly) expected the Sabres to finally turn the corner several times in the last couple year, it's quite clear that something needs to be changed.

The biggest issue is that Eichel isn't happy and being vocal about it. Even Dahlin has stated his dissatisfaction. How long will it be before Cozens and that 8th overall are able to make an impact for the Sabres? Another bad year and Eichel is demanding a trade. I'm not sure they have the luxury of waiting.

There is also that weirdness that happened with Botterill this summer. First was given the public confidence and reassurance from the Pegulas only to be fired a week or so later after some discussion about the direction of the team. Perhaps Botterill emphasized the need to be patient and stay course while the Pegulas wanted to see the playoffs for the first time since they bought the team in 2011.

Now they have a rookie GM who, I'm assuming, is being pressured to make some big changes. I think the Sabres are ripe for some "hockey trades" that will leave people, especially those who think draft picks and prospects are worth more than they actually are, scratching their heads.

Connie just took a mild shot at the coaches of the last few years on the Fan. Said management has always seen Bennett as a centre but none of the coaches they’ve had has put him there. Says it’s been unfair to Benny that they’ve kicked him around the line-up. Connie says they should give him the shot at centre, give him an important role.

Gooood. Gooooooood.

Stop hiring #%^* coaches.

Ward put him there and was very positive about the move in interviews after.

Make of that what you will I guess.

Risto is a forward...Or atleast he should be.

There is not a defender in the league who is more confused in their own end than him.

If the Sabres took Monahan I think they’d need to deal Reinhart somehow. There wouldn’t be enough ice time for him after that.

Reinhart is their top line RW, I don't know how acquiring Monahan would affect his ice time.

Reinhart plays RW too and I think would be a great fit with Monahan IMO. Having 2 C's on the line isn't too bad when at least one of them can play wing well...ish,

I think it would be kind of fun to try Risto on the fourth line RW spot or something

Reinhart doesn't play centre. Reinhart has played RW for some time now, almost exclusively on Eichel's wing.

Oh? He’s listed as a C. But I see by line combos you are correct. So problem solved.
