The Als now don't have a 1st round pick in the draft until 2022. It's a real shame what's going on there as I don't know if the CFL can afford to have nobody care about football in that market when nobody cares already in Vancouver and Toronto.
How steep of a price is too steep to pay for a bonafide number one in the CFL? It's a gamble they had to take. Not only was this season about to be lost, but they absolutely have nothing at the quarterback position coming up. You can't just let the season and next two seasons fall awaybecause you're too scared to make a deal.
Ya I get that but someone has to take responsibility with respect to whats happening in Montreal right now. Like Erick Estrada said, CFL needs a healthy Montreal team, stuff like this will destroy it.
To be the worst team and not have a 1st rounder next 3 drafts would be frustrating,
Als had to do this to sell tickets at the very least. Interest was waning.
The CFL draft does not compare to other drafts.
CFL draft is the basic source to your Canadian players who you have to start. Those are going to be high picks. The novelty is going to wear off pretty fast if/when he struggles.
I dont think Manziel will have much or any interest from the NFL no matter how well he plays.
Hard to say really because he's only 25 and if he shows he can be clean for two years in Canada a team may think he's worth bringing into camp as it is a league after all where Josh McCown is still playing at 39. Also don't discount the XFL as the CFL will lose talent to that league.

I take your point, but I would not say a first round pick in the CFL is as critical as in other sports. First, there are only 9 teams; without a first round pick, you could still be picking 10th. Second, the draft is used mainly to grab O/L - 9 of the top 14 in the 2018 draft were O/L. You can still get them in the second round or free agency.

It's still pretty critical that you accumulate quality Canadian depth as it's part of the formula of why the Stamps have been good for so long. Teams that lack Canadian depth struggle as you can't hide those players on the field.
Bowman is pretty much done and carries a hefty contract. I know contracts aren’t guaranteed but I have no idea why Reed wants the guy even for that low draft choice. He may have negative value.
Yeah he's not been the same player since coming back from injury last season. I would have thought the Bombers would have given him more time to work into the offense given they paid him a $40k bonus but it appears they may think he's done as well and were just happy another team wanted his contract.
