Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced Sunday that the club has acquired forward Brandon Bollig and goaltender Troy Grosenick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft.
This clears a couple of contracts off of San Jose. They now have 45 (had 47 before the trade). If they're looking to bring in a few players without sending any away, they may have needed to clear some contract space.
Even after this deal, Nashville only has 44 contracts on the books.
Maybe the Preds really wanted the goalie and San Jose would only make the deal if they agreed to take on Bollig too.
