It's horribly ambiguous. At first I thought what Millions is doing is predicting a victory on the basis of the fact that Calgary has won every third game in seven-game sample-sets. But then checking the schedule realized that this is horribly wrong.

This one is a bit worrisome as our defence/breakout strategy doesn't do very good under a high pressure forecheck. All too often they just default to ripping it up the boards which generally leads to an icing, a giveaway, or a sloppy (at best) break out that we can't build speed off of.
Flames have adapted to the heavy pressure forecheck. I can't even recall last time I saw the slapper around the boards breakout - but maybe it comes back in

I've checked this year's schedule and the only way I get 4 is by starting a new segment once either the Flames or opposition get to 4 wins so the Anaheim game was the 3rd which they won. After game 6, Flames have 4 wins so you start a new segment.
They won game 3 against Nashville but it was the only win in 5 games (Dallas loss was the 4th).
Next segment, they won game 3 against N.J. and they won their 4th game of that segment against Detroit.
Finally in the present segment they won game 3 against Phily and tonight by beating the Jackets, it would be their 4th win and therefore would start a new segment and the Toronto game would be the 3rd.
Too lazy to check end of last year segments for the other 4 3rd game wins.
Interesting posts Gaskal.......any chance you could look at our PK? That’s where we really need the help. And it would actually be interesting to see a deep dive analysis on what is and isn’t working there.
I originally thought the problem was that the PKers are too passive.
The vast majority of PPG against over the last while are because there is often an absurd lack of coverage deep in the zone, around the net.

The PKers rely on Smith too much on not only stopping the first (low-med danger) shot, but to also corral the rebound while the PP forwards crash the net and outnumber the one defender back. Not very realistic.
I can understand Gerrard wanting to cut down on chances from the slot and at the top of the circles, but right now the trade off is that we're getting rebounds buried, seeing-eye shots sneak past, and pucks tipped in because there is almost no anti net front presence. Both the Flyers and Blues goals here had the one defender back surrounded by 3 forwards, while the other 3 PKers are in no-man's-land. That really shouldn't be happening even on a PK.
If the Flames want to protect vs slot chances, have one of the forwards pressure less so one more defender can swing back to help protect the net. It's not making the 1st save that is troubling the Flames PK most, it's mostly wild scrambles and tip ins... and the PK setup just doesn't do nearly enough to protect against those "dirty" chances.

It's not unusual for a PK to leave the guy on the far side alone - they have one less player after all, but you absolutely have to prevent the puck from getting through cleanly. In other words, they need "good sticks" to be successful.

It's not unusual for a PK to leave the guy on the far side alone - they have one less player after all, but you absolutely have to prevent the puck from getting through cleanly. In other words, they need "good sticks" to be successful.
This season, I've noticed that once the opposition PP forward has puck at the side of the net, one or sometimes both defenders go down to their knees trying to block the cross-crease pass. Maybe it's not working to actually prevent the pass, but it seems like the smarter PP forwards will then pretend like they're not going to pass, so the D stands up, and then the forward looks back across the crease and they go down again.
