A very valid point.

It is going to be hard for him to do that. He might be able to string Montreal around for a bit, but at some point Bergevin is going to realize that Price doesn't really want to sign in Montreal. (assuming he wanted to leave).

Again the flames would be in a position with only 1 year left on Smiths contract to court Price if the rumor turns out to be true

That's just when you use the classic: "no contract negotiations during the regular season".

LOL as soon as he says that Bergevin is on the phone trying to move him.

Even if he gets moved he still becomes a UFA a year from now?

I dunno, the Flames were like a week or two out from the deadline with Iginla saying the same thing before they started looking around.

Not that the habs are the flames, but Bergevin is Bergevin.

Pretty sure any trade would require an agreement to sign a new contract extension.

Yes, unless he signs an extension with his new team.

And I don't see him being traded without an extension in place, uless the return is very small. What team is going to give up much of anything for 1 year of Price?

Well, yeah, so he's probably the world's most costly rental if Montreal is not looking at going deep by mid-year. If I'm sensing he won't re-sign, and if the trend for Montreal is what I think it will be this year, why keep Price only to be out by round two?

What would he command as a rental? And what western contender would want him? I could see the Preds figuring that Rinne was great but Price is a tier higher. The Blues could use him. But are they are true contender? The Hawks had a disappointing PO. Maybe they'd do a three way deal to lose Crawford and gain Price. The Sharks?

So, team out west?

Vancouver - rebuilding
Edmonton - took a big step, but have Talbot
Calgary - good young team, but just added Smith
Arizona - rebuilding
Colorado - perpetually rebuilding
Anaheim - perennial contender, but have Gibson
San Jose - good vet team, but have Jones
Los Angeles - playoff bubble team, have Quick

1. Does Price want to go to a rebuilding team?
2. Do the teams with goalies already, feel the need to pay a premium to upgrade their goaltending to Price levels? (keep in mind that includes likely a very high cap hit as well as sending their goalie + to acquire Price)

One thing to think about with Arizona in this equation is, is there any chance that team moves to Seattle in the next couple of seasons? That would be right in the wheel house for Price and especially his wife who is originally from that area I believe. Plus, they have a pretty sick prospect pool and just added a couple of very solid veterans at the most important positions. (C and D)

Yup, adding a 10M goalie would destroy most team's cap structure.

Craig Custance @CraigCustance
Stars were in on Karl Alzner until Methot. Alzner visiting MTL. I'd expect visits to Vegas & Vancouver too. Also, the 3 cities I'd visit.

It is a really good sign that when Bennett isn't playing with Brouwer his possession percentage jumps up to 51.7%.

The part that buried him this year was the shooting percentage and save percentage when he was on the ice. Team only had a 6.28% shooting percentage, and a .905 save percentage with him on the ice for a combined PDO of 96.8%.

His PDO was the lowest on the team with the next lowest regular forward being Chiasson at 97.9%. Considering PDO is supposed to be around 100 it appears that Bennett was also hurt by the percentages/bad luck a lot this season.

Sorry, what does save percentage have to do with Bennett?
