Great Bands that were killed by their record company
I thought it would be interesting to look at some great bands that had great potential but were ruined by their record company via demanding image changes or sound changes etc.
I wanted to put Lone Justice up here, they were a great mid 80's country punk band, lead by Maria McKee.
Their first album, which was self titled Lone Justice was probably one of the best albums end to end that I've ever owned.
East of Eden, Ways to be Wicked, Sweet Sweet Baby were the main songs that most people remember today. But the album didn't sell very well, and the record company cleaned out the band except for McKee and replaced their unique sound with a more standard pop fare in their second album which was Shelter, the only two memorable songs were "I found love" and Shelter". Even though Lone Justice had songs that were written by Tom Petty, Springsteen and other greats, they alienated their fanbase and the band was shelved shortly after

Most of the original members went on to become studio musicians.
McKee is really only remembered for her appearance in the Robbie Robertson video for "somewhere down the crazy river", other then that for all of her formidable talents she pretty much vanished from the mainstream.

How were XTC killed by their label? I know they had issues with Virgin, but they released stuff after that. Yeah, it wasn't great. but that's not the label's fault.

Maybe when t.hat is when they were making plans for Nigel?
I don't know if street hart was killed by thier label, but they had a solid album and I believe thier label was pushing lover boy in the U.S. and ignored street hart.

Primrods were a great Calgary band who got screwed in a Geffen merger. You can read a little about it here and download the album that wasn't released.
Nearly every rap group ever signed to Jive Records (UGK, Clipse, Souls Of Mischief, etc.) particularly the hip-hop groups that got their albums shunted when pop blew up in the late 90s.
