Figured I'd necro-bump this. Kind of borders the line between jazz/soul/funk. But it's been on replay in my living room for 3 days now.

Does Tears for Fears - Bad Man's Song count as jazz? It's pretty bluesy-jazz, it's one of my favorites!

One of the greatest songs of all-time, regardless of genre

I know nothing about jazz but to me, the stuff people post here are exactly what I expect of the genre. How come whenever I go to a jazz festival, most of what I hear resembles nothing of what I know jazz to be? I always end up hearing reggae, Hindi, celtic, African, etc.

The legendary Ornette Coleman has died. One of the most innovative jazz musicians ever. This is one of my favourites

I'm not a huge contemporary jazz dude, but LA musician Kamasi Washington just released a 3 disc album The Epic. Man is it really, really good - well worth checking out

Much like the term "Electronica" which is an umbrella of many sub-genres, so is "Jazz". Just change out "trance," "house," "drum n bass," etc for "swing," "cool," "bop/hard bop," "avant-garde," etc. There are as many sub-genres of "jazz" as there are "electronica."
