Default Film composer Jame Horner killed in plane crash

Sucks to hear this. A pretty impressive resume with some amazing and memorable scores credited to him. Hard to say what my favourite is, but notable films include Titanic, Braveheart, Avatar, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, A Beautiful Mind.

Love love love the score for A Beautiful Mind, one of my favourites ever. Crazy to lose John Nash and then Horner within a few weeks of each other.

I love the Braveheart soundtrack and I still listen to it regularly. I remember watching a movie trailer, I think it was Master and Commander, and they used a song from Braveheart. I can't find it now, but I thought it was funny at the time.

This is a huge loss for the music world, a very talented man. Braveheart was such a beautiful soundtrack, among so many others he is credited with.

RIP -- one of the great composers.

Man, a lot of the Star Trek family has passed this year.

He had a cameo in Wrath of Khan

RIP incredibly talented composer and unlabeled crewman.

Quite an impressive resume. Hard to believe he was only 61 when you look at how long he has been at the top of his profession.

Harrison Ford almost died crashing a small personal plane this year too. Odd circumstances -- it is quite a dangerous hobby, apparently.

One of the best composers in film history. His scores for Star Trek II and III are phenomenal. The only reason he doesn't have 3 Oscars is because Braveheart and Apollo 13 split his votes.

Also, scored the Land Before Time, which is also flat-out beautiful.

Something about space and dinosaurs brings out the best in composers.

Thank you for all your work, Mr Horner. You will be missed.

Heard this on the radio and it saddened me greatly as the Wrath of Khan score is an iconic piece of Trek for me.

The score for Beautiful Mind always completed that movie for me:

Felt the same way about Glory. You charge up that hill Ferris!!!

His Stealing the Enterprise score is one of my favorites. I know a lot of his Star Trek 3 score and his Aliens score riffs and rips directly from Star Trek II, but damn that music still makes that scene for me today. I still find myself on the edge of my seat just because of the music in that scene.

My favorite James Horner score, other than "Apolocalypto", was easily "The Mask Of Zorro." Both scores were a complete departure from his regular style (which of course I love, especially my inner ten-year old) and really cemented for me at a young age what a genius this guy is. Its almost like he and John Williams constantly played 1a 1b for the best in the business there for a while, but I find Horner to be just a tad more experimental and creative, whereas John Williams is the more robustly "classical" of the two.
