Only thing surprising about this is the timing. Maybe they didn't want him making any moves at the deadline?

I thought he did a good job for a long time, they were in arguably the worst division to be part of, continually going up against the Penguins, and Capitals. Not to mention the Hurricanes who have been good for a long time as well. They had a 47 win season and still managed to be fifth in their own division.
The past few years have been rough and a change in direction was needed.

What's happened to Sillinger? I knew he'd been struggling to live up to the hype but these numbers are awful.

I'm not sure but his hype to me always seemed to be a bit more about hype than actual performance. He did have a good rookie season, but since then has looked below average.

I am surprised he didn't get canned right after the Babcock thing

It was widely speculated this was his last "show me" season, and given how its gone this is not surprising.
I think most of you are right, they didn't want Jarmo doing anything @ the deadline and therefor had to get him out of there before he made any more mistakes.

Yeah I think people are completely off here. Look at Columbus' track record before he got there, they had been an absolute bottom dweller forever. Yeah it was time for him to go and they can use a new voice, but he got them into the playoffs for a few years in a row and made them relevant for a while.
My guess is whoever gets that job is not going to have any more success and probably less. It's a market where nobody want to play.

It's a perfect example of how not to operate a team in an unattractive market.

Except Johnny Gaudreau.

Better question yet is how did John Davidson survive? Guy is a a train wreck and Jarmo was his guy. What does he have on the Columbus owner?
Smooth talker and that’s all he’s got. If bull#### was brass, he’d have a whole band.

Jarmo is a very exciting GM, who is willing to wheel and deal, so I hope he gets a job with a team I don't like. The league is more entertaining with him in it. Maybe he replaces Rob Blake on the Kings?

Should have been shown the door when Babcock was fired.
Interesting that others think he did a decent job. It's a tough division and hard to get UFA's in Ohio, but for a scout that was supposed to be some kind of rainmaker, his team isn't exactly overflowing with young talent.

Doesn't help that Johnny has fallen through the floor.

I doubt he will ever be a NHL GM ever again.

Had the best FA on the market fall into his lap two seasons ago, wonder if he would have been fired sooner if not for that.

Time for the new GM to make a trade with the Flames! Give us your first rounders!
Actually unfortunate circumstances for CBJ this year with Laine personal issues and injuries. They still have some young skilled players there to develop on. CBJ's been at the bottom too long and not competitive enough in the tough Eastern Conference where every team seems to have gotten better over the past 10 years.

Salvage the trade deadline in some form, I guess

I remember this well, plus he was touted here as a guy who made big moves.
