This could be a pivotal point in the match - RBA just broke to get back on serve and then in the very next game Denis had multiple break points but couldn't cash in and RBA did consolidate the break. Let's see if Shapo can keep his head here, he's still on serve in set 2.

Nice win by Denis taking out a very in-form RBA 6-3 7-6. When he plays like this (patiently building points and waiting for the right time to be aggressive), he can beat anyone on tour.

Shapo and Felix are again proving they have the ability to construct points and beat very good players on tour when they are committed to doing so. I don't know what it's going to take to get through to them that this is the way to be a top end player on tour vs trying to blow players off the court and killing yourself.
If FAA takes care of business we've got an all-Canadian QF on taps in Basel. These two love indoor tennis.

Felix should be up shortly as Holger Rune took care of business in straight sets.

Felix gets breadsticked by Mpetshi Perricard - Looking very shaky out there thus far.

MP might have one of the worst backhands I've seen on tour in a long time, yet Felix doesn't seem to be fully going after it with any assertiveness. He should be changing up his return stance and return stroke at minimum to take away pace and put the ball in play. Letting this one trick pony blow you off the court is inexcusably bad.
The stubbornness to keep doing what he's doing without changing is just bizarre whether it is in match or general approach. It's almost at the point where I can't even stand to watch him anymore.

Welp, Mpetshi Perricard sends Felix packing in straight set 6-1 7-6. Felix much better in set 2, but when you find yourself in a tie-break with Giovanni's serve, the odds are stacked against you.

I will always root for our Canadians, but I'm on the Mensik wagon if you haven't already guessed.

Wow that Perricard guy had one of the best service matches I've seen in a long time as he blew Felix off the court. Even better serve returners would have had an extremely difficult day against him. Shapo will have to have a good return game tomorrow.

Felix is dangerously close to dropping out of the top 30 and is flirting with not being seeded at the Aussie Open if he doesn't right the ship in a hurry.

Rebecca Marino and Marina Stakusic are into the semi-finals of the ITF tourney in Mexico following wins this evening. There's a chance they could meet in the final which would be pretty awesome.

Bianca and Leylah are out of the Japan tourney. Bianca had a rough match versus Katie Boulter while Leylah gave Qinwen Zheng all she could handle, but lost in three sets.

Arthur Fils looked very impressive knocking out Oikos in straight sets just now.

That was a high quality match between Ben Shelton and Bweh just now which Big Ben ended up winning in three sets.

Shapo just plunked Mo Lahyani in the chair - It was purely accidental as he was just trying to get a service return back. They shared a laugh and a high five as Mo shrugged it off.

Denis takes the opening set in a tie-break (9-7 was the tie-breaker score). Playing very well again today as is Mpetshi Perricard.
Edit: Going to a 3rd set as MP takes set 2 6-3 - One break of the Shapo serve was all that was required.

Tough one for Shapo, but sublime serving conditions for Mpetshi Perricard who hit 27 aces and probably the same number of unreturnable serves. Good week for Denis though raising that ranking into the top 80.
