Also, maybe Arthur Fils losing to Gabriel at the US Open was the wakeup call that he needed as Arthur finds himself in the China Open final after defeating Holger Rune in two tie-break sets 7-6(8) and 7-6(10). I didn't see the match, but by the looks of the score line, it sounds like it was a cracker.

Also, the two guys who split the grand slams this past season are meeting in the China Open final early Wednesday morning. Might have to get up very early to watch this one.

For the people that thought the exit of the big 3 would kill tennis, this is exhibit A that the game is still in a good place. These two players are special.

Yes sir and there are some young guys like Mensik and Fonseca that are real up-and-comers.

They don't yet have a consistent level in their matches where both are absolutely peaked the entire time, like the Big 3 did. But I don't think it's disrespectful to say that some of the rallies today were beyond what Fed/Rafa/Djoker ever produced. As much as Father Time is undefeated, the progression of skill, strength, speed, and endurance in sport is also immutable.

I don't know what Fils ultimate upside is but he looks like a guy that may hang around the top 10 for a while.
Fils has all the tools to be a top 10 guy no doubt. Big serve and groundstrokes, elite athlete who moves very well. I would say the biggest thing holding him back is his return of serve and shot tolerance/consistency, but his future looks very bright.
I watched a great tennis documentary that every tennis fan needs to see called The French. American photographer William Klein was given unlimited access to the 1981 French Open and he tells the story of the 2 week event. We get a fly on the wall look at some of the best tennis players ever, players like Borg, McEnroe, Vilas, Connors, Everett, Noah . We are also given locker room access and see how players on tour really interacted with each other. Plus as someone who never saw tennis played with wooden rackets I saw how beautiful the game was. This was everything Netflix wished they could do with their show. I was surprised how popular Borg was, he was like a Beatle. Wes Anderson is a fan of this obscure film and re-released it recently that's how I discovered it on disk.
Disclaimer if you are going to watch the trailer be careful it's slightly NSFW you see a bare butt getting massaged lol
