It wouldn't hurt to have refs make a call without a player feeling the need to drop when someone brushes them, but at least start with the most egregious and work from there.
that's the key though, if players have to fall down to get a foul they will fall down. then they will further fall down to con refs.

cause it's a sport about conning 1 ref for a big reward. soccer thrives on this.. the little guy getting one over on the big guy or the big guys getting all the calls over the poor little guys. Conspiracy! Controversy! Tabloids! drives the sport worldwide

Yup you're not going to shame a player into not diving.

It will only stop once A) Refs stop falling for it and provinding the divers team an advantage, B) You suspend/fine the player for each infraction so it actually takes a toll on their pocket books, and C) Calls actually get made on fouls that do happen but a player doesn't go down.

Just shaming the person publicly will do nothing

What's the latest on the black card? I think that has a strong future, in penalizing divers.

it would still have to be interpreted by the ref as a dive.

i don't see it as a deterrent. Send off the guy and bring a pair of fresh legs on. I'd use it as a substitution ploy. You're getting substituted anyways, go dive in the box.

sin bin might be a better solution.

Dives and cynical fouls though. While we're at it we should eliminate those as well.

Cynical behaviour is the very reason that the GAA introduced the black card in Ireland.

Is it working? I follow Gaelic Games quite intensely and I would say Yes. But it has had a LOT of teething problems, particularly with lack of consistancy with refs in application of the rules. That is to be expected but it is getting better.

And regarding substitutions. A card counts as a substitution. Used up all your subs and get a black card? Tough merde. And I don't know on what planet players decide to go for a dive when they see their number up on the board. Never done it for a yellow why would they do it for a black?

Dives for me, should be a straight red, a fine and a suspension.

I hate to see them yellowed whilst a defender/goalie gets a red for a last man back clumsy challenge.

I know Ibra is kind of unique, but he's still 35 and at that age coming back from a torn ACL is going to be mighty difficult. Only one season in the PL, but still an impressive one. Gotta think it's off to MLS retirement now for sure.

Debatable. Anyways....

I read this today and must admit to laughing.

Quote:
London - Everton star Ross Barkley received an apology from The Sun tabloid newspaper on Saturday over a column that made "unfavourable comparisons" to a gorilla.

The newspaper printed the apology and said it had not been aware that the England midfielder's grandfather was from Nigeria.

The column was headlined "Here's why they go ape at Ross" alongside pictures of Barkley and a gorilla.

"At the time of publication the paper was unaware of Ross Barkley's heritage and there was never any slur intended.

"As soon as his background was drawn to our attention, the article was removed from online.

Liverpool FC banned The Sun from its Anfield stadium and its training ground in February this year over the paper's coverage.

Many shops in the city also refuse to sell the newspaper.

"Its only bad because he has African Heritage."

No. No! It shouldnt be acceptable to compare people to Gorillas whether they have African Heritage or are as white as snow.

They werent being Racist because they admittedly had no idea about his heritage, they were just being ass holes.

Hasn't the sun been banned at Liverpool for many years now over their Hillsborough coverage?

Should that report be Everton and Goodson?

City council should just vote to keep it out of he city

Relegation battle is going to be interesting. Bournemouth is destroying Middlesbrough right now and both Hull and Swansea pull off impressive wins vs Watford and Stoke. That's pretty much curtains for Middlesbrough and of course Sunderland already, but the race for the third club to go down is going to be intense.

12. AFC Bournemouth - 38 (4 games left)
13. West Ham United - 38 (4 games left)
14. Leicester City - 37 (6 games left)
15. FC Burnley - 36 (5 games left)
16. Crystal Palace - 35 (6 games left)
17. Hull City - 33 (4 games left)
18. Swansea City - 31 (4 games left)
