Did anyone laugh even once during the D'oh Canada show?
The JT planking thing was kind of funny, but the rest?
An unnecessary scene just so they could recycle a 20 year old Mt Splashmore joke?
A song about upstate New York that nobody probably understood.
A Newfie seal killing joke????? WTF?

I can appreciate good jokes about any topic.
But that wasn’t even a joke.... there was no punchline or anything. Poor attempt.
Also, is there a group of Canadians anywhere who don’t like Newfies????

I'm always game for some satire of Canada, I usually enjoy it but wow was that episode cringe-worthy.
First of all, enough with the healthcare. We get it. Everyone gets it.
You want to know who else has Universal Health Care? Pretty much the entire developed world and some of the under-developed world not named 'America.'
We also use the metric system and Celsius just like 90% of the rest of the world.
And I'm all for making fun of Justin Trudeau. As much as I dislike the guy he probably has a decent enough sense of humour to laugh at being lampooned by the Simpsons but honestly? WTF was that?
And the seal clubbing Newfie joke? I'm not even going to touch on the fact that it was in poor taste and largely inaccurate, but most Newfies are probably cringing at that mostly because it was a ham-fisted and pathetic attempt at a joke.
Newfies can take a joke on the chin, even a self-deprecating one, but that was painful to watch. Like a child trying to formulate a joke and it just doesnt work.
Just stop.

The worst joke about this alleged controversy is that The Simpsons is still on TV despite not being funny anymore for the better part of the last 20 years.

ALL ABOARD!

It's still on the air after all this time so the ratings must be fine and some people must still find it funny.
I only ever hear people complaining about how it hasn't been good in years. Do you watch it week-to-week or are you just guessing that it's not good anymore.

They have a contract for the 30th season in 2020 and that'll likely be their last.
I've watched it off and on every season. Each episode I watch gets a chuckle or two but it's definitely not as good as it used to be. That could be as due to the changing landscape of comedy. The Simpsons has always been pretty clean and the audience that loved it as teens/young adults are now in their 40s/50s.
Similar to SNL, I think the Simpsons has been getting a "historical pass" for a while.

It really stopped being on my schedule a while ago, I watch the occassional episode, and its just not that funny. They've kind of trapped the characters. I mean Lisa and Bart and Maggie never age, Homer and Marge aren't all that dynamic.
I mean lets be honest there have been character changes, but have they been better
Homer - From good natured, slightly defeated Oaf, to a bit of a jerk who's only there to play the pratfall
Marge - Good natured, slightly overwhelmed house wife who was looking for more to a bit shrill and trapped housewife, she's really only there to say "look this episode is really sentimental"
Bart - From a Dennis the Menace type to a heartless prankster and anarchist
Lisa - From the smartest member of the family and wise beyond her years to a flavor of the week cause character
Maggie - from the non talking but smart baby of the family to pretty much a piece of furniture.

continues to boggle my mind that the simpsons will have been on TV for more than half of my life if the 30th season is the last.
it would be cool to know how much $ the simpsons tv shows and movies and their merchandise has brought in over that time.

I admittedly don't even know what time and which channel it's on anymore. I used to watch; it went downhill in about 2000, I stopped actively watching in 2002 or 2003, and any subsequent episodes I've seen bits and pieces of were complete crap. I find it eminently easy to believe it's still crap; it's so bad now it's making the news!
There's lots of crap on TV. Popular crap, even. Just because it's still on TV doesn't mean it's good. I'm amazed Family Guy is still on the air too. Grey's Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory... They're shows that might have been good when they began, but became stale long ago.

I still think that the show hit its quality and creative peak with the after the simpsons spoof.

Sunday's ratings for the Fox animation block were
Simpsons - 1.94
Bob's Burgers - 1.83
Family Guy - 1.93
So, definitely not in cancellation territory for any of the above...yet.

They were the kings of taking a clean, thoughtful and funny show and pushing dirty jokes at the right times. Their downfall was a million and one other shows taking their success and exaggerating the dirty stuff.
After that a dirty joke on the simpsons was an eyeroller on Family Guy and other shows.

That's viewers. The rating's share is 0.8, with cancellation said to be in the 1.4 range. So ya, not looking good.
