UFC president Dana White told the Los Angeles Times on Monday that the promotion has no deal in place for Conor McGregor to fight at UFC 200, despite a tweet claiming just that from McGregor on Sunday night.
White told the Times that McGregor saying he is back on the card is "not true."
"We haven't talked [to] Conor or his manager since the press conference [Friday]," White said. "I don't know why he would tweet that."
The new main event for UFC 200 is officially set as light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will meet interim champ Jon Jones on July 9 as part of the historic card taking place at the new T-Mobile Arena in La Vegas.
UFC officials announced the new fight on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.
The new headline bout comes almost exactly one week after Conor McGregor was pulled from UFC 200 after he refused to travel to the United States for promotional engagements to begin planning for his fight against Nate Diaz.
Ronda Rousey's film schedule is only getting more packed.
According to Deadline, the Lifetime network has added the UFC superstar to its roster on a three-picture movie deal to work on projects "that reflect her passions about empowerment to the screen."
Bringing the perspective of a very casual fan here. Just caught a UFC194 replay on TSN and I'm not gonna lie, McGregor gets me excited about UFC. He's probably the only thing that would make me buy a PPV on a whim, as I did randomly for his Diaz fight because I found myself on the couch chilling when it was on. I really hope he gets on the 200 card because I'll buy it. And then there's a good chance that that exposure to Jones and whoever else is fighting might get me buying non-McGregor cards in the future. Is hoping to hook my type of fan worth it to slot him into 200?
Rumors of Mayweather vs McGregor in strictly a boxing match.
Have to think it would end McGregor's time at the UFC - and the payday would probably mean he wouldn't need to go back anyways. Although not sure how he could even take a boxing bout when he is on contract to the UFC.
Mayweather made $220M for his fight with Pacquiao, who raked in close to $140M on his end.
Even if McGregor just got $50M from the boxing match he would probably be done.
