Definitely going to lose a good defenceman or pay dearly not to in 2021.

Unless you make a good hockey trade for one or more of them prior to that time.
Frankly, even 2020 would result in really good exposed players especially on D. Gio, Brodie, Andersson, Hamonic, Hanifin and Kylington would all be eligible.
In 2021 you might have to go 8 skaters and protect Monahan, Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Lindholm up front, with Hanifin, Hamonic and Valimaki plus one of Gio/Brodie/Andersson. I guess Bennett's progress will make this decision happen one way or the other.

Seattle have introduced a healthy amount of dark-blue into their palette as well, so I wouldn't be surprised to see navy blue added to the original palette to give them a really unique 'Seattle' look

I think it's too early to think about the expansion protection list now. The team has changed quite a bit from 3 years ago and may change significantly 3 years from now.
Better to focus on how to build the best team as possible long term than worrying about losing your 11th best player.

Although I just looked at their depth chart, do they really have enough players that they wouldn't have to protect him anyway?
McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins (if they re-sign him), Puljujarvi?, Yamamoto.
Seriously awful depth means that protecting Lucic wouldn't cost the Oilers much
That being said, I would suspect that Lucic would waive the NMC to go back to the west coast near his family.

Gio would start that season at 38 and have 1 year left at $6.75.
I wouldn't be surprised if they left him exposed. Brodie and Hamonic's deals end the prior year.

I’m not sure if the Flames protect Giordano, who would be turning 38 prior to the 2021-22 season. Would Seattle take him?
Obviously, this depends somewhat on if/how much Gio declines going into that age.

Even if they didn't, I wouldn't be shocked if Calgary took the chance and left him exposed anyway.

Pretty tough to make this call now for sure but I'd guess the flames go with 8 skaters as well.
You just hope that another forward steps up out of the Mangiapane, Dube, Jankowski, Bennett fold to become worthy of protection. I would say it wouldn't make much sense to protect Gio as a 37 something year old about to be on an expiring deal and Hamonic could very well be gone as a FA by then.
As of this offseason my list would be:
Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Backlund, Hanifin, Valimaki, Andersson, Goalie

Nor I. But he wouldn't be the only good D they'd have to expose.

Refresh my memory because I am seemingly forget, but we can trade assets to SEA in order for them NOT to select a certain player, correct?

The delay hurts Valimaki and Dube most I guess. It's fairly likely they get their 40/70 games in by then. They are both currently at around 20 games, and Valimaki would have played more. Even if Dube spends the rest of the year in the A this year, he's getting 70 over 2019-20 and 20-21 in the NHL, and at the very least he's going to get 40 in 20-21.

I wonder what ownership is doing with these expansion funds? Going towards arena development perhaps or likely to be blown on the finer things in life? Nearly $40M to the owners in a span of 5 years is a pretty ridiculous top up for a team apparently struggling to stay competitive. Mr Bettman will be in for some pretty nice Christmas gifts this year.

Seattle Starbux. They already have a logo and a color scheme. Green and white like their Irish founding fathers...

Whatever they feel like doing with it since it's, you know, theirs?
