Jay Feaster, I may never forgive you for your abysmal trades and your general suckishness. But if Mark Jankowski turns out the way he appears to be headed, I will gladly vote for you as Calgary mayor where you too can c0#k block a new arena.

@AAVickers: Gulutzan wants to be down to 15 and 8 after the next round of cuts. Cautioned a few guys have earned some extra looks, though. #Flames

Would mean about 20 players cut tomorrow

Preseason is about seizing opportunities to move up in the lineup.

Bennett made a statement today. Hopefully he won't be platooned like he was last year.

It also seems that there are role players out performing Brouwer on the ice tonight. I want to see Brouwer actually earn his spot through his on ice efforts. I think he'll need some better efforts the rest of the preseason.

Back from the game. To bad the stream went out as for a preaeason game it was pretty good. You guys also missed probably the best game Brouwer has had in flames silks.okay not really

That was a fun game!

Tried to focus on the question marks. Here's my takes, in between beers and keeping my little guy somewhat under control

Brouwer and Hamilton win the interact with kids during warm-up award. HM to Andersen and Stajan

Jankowki is making this team. No doubt about it.

Andersen makes a legitimate push for a NHL spot. Never once looked out of place.

Klimchuk looked good. I think we see in a Flames uni this year. Probably not right out of camp, but he's ready.

Glass.... I want to like him, he impressed me against the Canucks and again tonight, but I don't think he adds anything we didn't already have.

Shinkaruk, sadly, didn't do much. Still beneath guys like Freddie Hamilton on the depth chart

Brouwer looked pretty good. Played like the Brouwer I thought we were getting. More of that please

I'll add some more thoughts when I get home

Oh I'd say Wotherspoon looked better than Kulak.

FAKE NEWS!!

I was also at the game, and Brouwer still looks like a bag of dicks. A second late, and a step behind.

SOBBOB... tom foolery exposed.

I remember when Bennett was put on the top line with Gaudreau (and Monahan) two years ago. He wasn't really able to do much and the experiment faded quickly. He looked much better tonight, albeit against some lesser competition. It helped that Johnny was flying out there -- good to see him in mid-season form.

Thought Rasmus was solid and did not look out of place at all. Too bad he's a right shot as otherwise I think he'd be the clear front runner for the #6 spot. As it stands, Wotherspoon was okay tonight but hasn't made the jump yet like we're all hoping he (or Kulak) will.

Lazar needs to realize the only way he's going to be effective in this league is to start skating like a madman and bringing energy in every shift. Otherwise he's just a fourth line guy who doesn't score, hit or fight.

Klimchuk and Shinkaruk both had good effort tonight but neither appears to be pushing for a roster spot unfortunately. I'd expect both to be back in the AHL pretty soon.

Do you not remember when Bennett was put on the top line with Gaudreau and Frolik and they dominated?

I don't think Bennett has ever looked good on Monahan's wing, but he's usually looked good as Gaudreau's center.

I actually don't but I'll take your word for it.

PS I just read the last few pages of this thread -- well done CP. It was actually a decent game for the preseason -- things got little feisty out there which seemed to keep everyone engaged (even Brouwer! )

It’s great the academy players are giving GG lots to think about. The PTO guys are doing their jobs as foils for the kids to compete against. Can’t see them staying past camp with the Flames. Good luck to them elsewhere maybe.
