Tkachuk may always have been destined to fall to the Flames even if Puljujarvi had gone #3.
Had Puljujarvi gone #3 it was rumoured that
-EDM would have taken Sergachev at #4
-VAN would then have taken Dubois at #5
So I'm not sure that the Dubois pick really necessarily helped things that much. Regardless that draft was so good it would have been hard to screw it up. I wanted one of Tkachuk/Dubois bad but even if both had gone ahead of us we still would have had our choice of Sergachev, McAvoy, Keller, Chychrun, Nylander and Jost. It would have been hard to go wrong although it does look like Juolevi might've been a bad pick.
So in the end what we can really say to borrow a phrase from Reggie and apply it west is, Ha Ha Stupid Canucks! But yeah I was ecstatic to land Tkachuk as he was the guy I wanted the most outside the top 3 guys that year.
