Default Two men dead in brazen Evanston shooting

Calgary is becoming the wild west. Bang bang bang.
And reading some comments on this shooting, it sounds like the NE is sprawling westward. Truly becoming the wild west.

http://calgarysun.com/news/crime/two...nston-incident

Quote:
Calgary police are investigating a Friday afternoon shooting in the northwest community of Evanston that left two men dead in the front seats of a Nissan Murano.

Calls of shots being fired came in to police just after 3 p.m. in the 100 block of Evanscrest Manor, and upon arriving at the scene, officers found the men dead.

The Calgary police canine unit sprang into action and began tracking a suspect, but lost the trail soon after. All the while, the HAWCS police helicopter circled above.

”Right now, our homicide unit is investigating the offence,” said duty Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson on Friday night.

”We do not believe this is a random attack.

I don't know NE Calgary at all, but seems a little dramatic to call it the wild west. I liken it to the similar comments towards NE Edmonton. They usually come from people with no experience of the area, going off stereotypes and other peoples' opinions.

If the NE is moving westward, then they must have skipped a few communities because Evanston isn't exactly next door to forest lawn.

Would you say it's time to crack each others heads open and feast on the goo inside?

Yes, yes I would.

Evanston is waaaay west of Centre Street and is in the NW by any possible measure.

Who the hell reads Sun comments?
and 4 murders in 5 months is the wild west? You get 4 murders by 10am in a major US city.

Sorry, I misread tacos comment. I guess my comment still stands though - Calgary isn't the wild west and saying so is being overly dramatic.

Interesting coincidence that Nick Chan gets out on bail and has a chance of all his charges getting dropped (pending appeal) and then this shooting.

Evanston is just west of 14th, not exactly waaay west, it's about a 2 minute drive to what is technically the NE.

But in any case I think these arguments of about which corner of the city are the worst are redundant.

1) Everyone pokes fun at the NE

2) People point out the specific communities that are citing are really in the SE

3) Others say that's ####hole so its pretty much the NE, for some reason thats hard to explain. (I'm just waiting for the day theirs a murder in Evergreen or Valley Ridge so we can talk about them pretty much being NE communities).

4) I smugly point out that due to having the belt line its actually the SW that has the most violent crimes.

In reality Evanston is suburban as suburban can get, adjacent to the major highway, over a 1/4 of the population is below high school aged, most of the houses have attached garages and 6' tall fences. This incident alone probably has nothing to do with safety in the community. As with most murders we see in Calgary it is isolated, targeted and not predictive of future events.

Oh man, don't get me started on THAT bull####. What moron thought it was a good idea to name a stub of a road the same as a fairly major, well recognized NS road? Oh, look, an exit south off of Stoney, and it is 14th st. Sweet. 30 seconds later, you clearly realize this isn't the 14th st you have been told it is. No amount of driving logically from that point will get you to 14th st.

I thought the city would have learned their lesson with Sarcee, and to a lesser extent Centre. But no. Let's do this #### again instead.

Isn't this the second similar type of attack in that area in the past six months or so? Wasn't there a murder in Evanston in late 2017 where two people were found dead in a burnt car?

In November, a guy was found shot dead in a vehicle in an alley in Ranchlands.
