Now with the USTA settlement in the rear view mirror, maybe this weekend could provide a kickstart for Genie to climb up the WTA rankings.

Denis with a first round bye in the Pest' 250 event this week. Very favorable draw for the youngster. He needs to find a way to take advantage and clean up his game as the semifinals, or better are ripe for the taking here.
Milos not in action with the knee bothering him. Here's hoping he can get back in time for Madrid/Rome as he can ill afford to miss another significant chunk of time.

Sounds like a wonderful person's life was terminated yesterday as part of the senseless violence that occurred on the streets of Toronto yesterday.
It is with deepest sorrow that Tennis Canada confirms the passing of a member of its extended family this morning.
Anne-Marie D’Amico, identified as one of the victims of the senseless van attack in Toronto yesterday, had been working at Rogers Cup since the age of 12.
Anne-Marie started out as a ball girl and went on to become an integral part of the volunteer team, most recently serving as committee head of Stadium Control in addition to her full-time role with Invesco, a US-based investment management firm.
Anne-Marie was voted volunteer of the year in 2016. She was always smiling, had the biggest heart and always put other people’s needs ahead of her own.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Anne-Marie’s family and with all those impacted by this tragic event,” said Gavin Ziv, the Vice President of Professional Events at Tennis Canada. “Anne-Marie lived for working at Rogers Cup and seeing her fellow volunteers each summer. The tournament was such a large part of her life and we were so lucky to have her on our team each summer. Her passion for Rogers Cup was contagious and we are honoured to let the world know what an amazing person she was and the great things she did for others.”

Joker bows out in Barcelona as he's still struggling to find consistency...
BARCELONA, Spain — Novak Djokovic lost again, this time falling to 140th-ranked Martin Klizan 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 on Wednesday in the second round of the Barcelona Open.
Djokovic, trying to return to form after a lingering right elbow injury, hasn’t made it past the last 16 in five tournaments this year.
The 12th-ranked Serb got off to a slow start but rebounded to force a third set. He was then broken while trailing 4-3, allowing Klizan to serve out for the victory.

An independent review of corruption in tennis found that the sport "faces a serious integrity problem" at its lower levels — a "tsunami," according to one person interviewed — but no widespread problem at ATP, WTA and Grand Slam tournaments.
The report released Wednesday showed no coverup of improper betting or match-fixing by tennis’ governing bodies, although it did find there were "errors made and opportunities missed," Adam Lewis, a member of the three-lawyer review panel, said at a news conference in London.
There were several recommendations made, such as putting an end to the International Tennis Federation’s sale of official live scoring data; increasing transparency by making public the tournament appearance fees paid to some players; and expanding the staffing and reach of the Tennis Integrity Unit, the anti-corruption group established in 2008 after a surge of suspicious betting activity in tennis.
"Fundamental reform is required," Lewis said.

That's too bad was looking forward to the Nadal vs Djoker match but doesnt look likely this clay court season. Kei also lost he retired during his match. Nadal won his match today....in Rafael Nadal stadium hahaha must be intimidating for opponents to play in a stadium named after your opponent.

On the heels of Canadian men losing matches on the Challenger tour (Vasek, FAA, and Peter all lost earlier this week), Milos still nursing his latest injury and Denis continues to struggle...

Yeesh - the return game is no longer looking like it was last season. The double faults continue to pile up in the stat column too. As far as I'm concerned, the clay season can't end soon enough for Denis.
He'll need to shrug this off quickly and try to make the most of the grass season.

Tsitsipas won the first semifinal!
Quote:
Stefanos Tsitsipas became the first Greek to reach an ATP World Tour final since Nicholas Kalogeropoulos in 1973 on Saturday, defeating Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-4 at the Barcelona Open.
The 19-year-old is the youngest finalist in Barcelona since 2005 (Nadal) and will be bidding to become the first unseeded champion since Gaston Gaudio in 2002

Tsitsipas - Nadal will be the final on Sunday - I'm not ready to say it's the passing of the torch from the King of clay to the heir apparent, but the 19 year old really plays well on the dirt.

I'm excited to see what the kid has, there is no higher mountain to climb in tennis history than to beat Nadal on clay. Kid plays with a one handed backhand you know Nadal will be attacking it all match.

Nadal rules in Barcelona winning the final 6-2 6-1 - Tsitsipas played better than the scoreline indicates, it's just that Rafa puts his opponent under so much unrelenting pressure.

Nadal had really improved his backhand recently and he's been breaking serve like crazy. This is the best on clay he's ever been, he's unbeatable.
