Default Public Mobile - $40 plan

https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ab

Just heard of this plan. I'm currently on the Koodo $48 dollar plan but I'm thinking of switching to this.

They bill every 3 months so the public mobile comes out to $120 and they give you 12 gigs of data. You can choose to use the data however you want in those 3 months. Say you use 2 gigs first month, you have 10 to use the next two.

Only downside to this is only provincial calling. If you go out to province, you won't receive calls, but you can make calls and your data will work as well.

They also have good rewards. If you stick with them for a year you get a $1 offa month every year and this stacks up to 15 years. If you use PAP you save $2/month. And if you refer a friend you also save $1/month.

Pretty sick deal I must say.

Offer ends November 20.

Also if anyone is wondering about reception - Telus bought them out so they run off Telus network so you should have no issues with reception.

Anyone have any other info on these guys?
Canada wide calling with Text and 6GB for 3 months is only $45/month which seems reasonable also.

Wow, this is fantastic, thanks!

I'm assuming the data plan is Canada only, yes?

Careful. 90 day plan. I think that 4gb is across 90 days not monthly 4gb.

It's 12 gigs across 90 days so 4 gigs a month

I ordered a sim card and want to upgrade my phone. Any suggestions for around $300 that will work on this provider. Will this work, it's unlocked and is it any good?

Yes that phone will work. As to if it's any good or not, not sure. I'd look at some review websites before buying.

If you're looking for a decent phone for cheap, PM seems to have a phone store of sorts that sells refurbished phones that will absolutely work on their network.

We're on Public Mobile and they're great. As was mentioned, they're actually a subsidiary of Telus now (like Koodo is) so it's all Telus infrastructure.

The only downside is that their customer support is pretty much non-existant. They use a peer-to-peer support model, so if you actually need to talk to someone, it's not super easy.

That said, it was an easy decision for us considering we'd never once had to call our cell service provider in all the years of having phones for a support issue.

No qualms or issues here. Highly recommend them as a provider. We use them for all of our day-to-day cell usage, and pair it with a Roam Mobility SIM when we go to the US for our all our US data/text/talk needs.

Sounds like they will have a US add on coming along shortly for that too.

Only caution I would give is you may want to be a least a bit tech savvy. Some people having some issues with getting a data connection working but like maverickstruth said, they have a pretty good support forum and mods you can PM if you really need help.

Also patience may be a bit of a plus. Their serves are getting hammered from people porting over numbers and some have gone a few days before they got their service working.

Hoping my SIM card is waiting for me in the mailbox tonight.

Should update, I'm on public mobile now. Reception is great, same as Koodo. Speeds running side by side are identical as well.

I was billed $126 for 3 months, but I prepay so got $3 off a month and another dollar off for referral of my wife.

I was on the $50 Koodo plan and with everything was about $55. So I'm saving a good 15 dollars a month for 1 less gig and x2 for my wife so $30 dollars a month for pretty much the same service.

When I was cancelling my Koodo plan yesterday I was on hold for 1 hr then when they transferred me to cancellations the phone cut off. Csb

Thanks, I'm doing the same and ditching WIND, Sims orders. Final straw was last night @ the Gray Eagle Casino- No signal at all! I've also been in roaming mode DT Calgary which isn't a big deal, but really? WIND is cheap but you can really see why...

I thought porting your number to PM automatically cancelled your old plan?

Was hoping to get my new SIM last night but all I got was an email advising it has been sent. Doh! Should be here before the end of the week though.

Sorry I should add, I moved from Winnipeg back to Edmonton and wanted a new number anyways. But if you're porting, don't cancel your account first or you'll lose your number!

Anybody who's switched from Wind, did you have to unlock your phone first?

Any phone that wasn't previously on the Telus network will have to be unlocked.

With the 90 day plan on Public Mobile does the unused data get carried forward to the next 90 day plan? Is there an auto renewal function so that you can keep renewing every 90 days?

Also - how is the reception at places like High River, Millarville etc that aren't within city limits?

Not sure about the data carrying forward but yes, they do have an auto renewal option.

I just ported my number over last night, absolutely seamless. Porting completed immediately and was on the new plan as soon as my phone was turned back on.

Same for me- transferred 2 numbers in a couple of minutes. Really simple
