I'm excited about this, if for no other reason than we can finally stop talking about how long the coaching search is taking and how many candidates Treliving "missed out" on.

Doubt it. Treliving will probably let him build his own coaching staff.

I bet Hartley could give him a good nickname. God I'm gonna miss the Hartleyisms.

I would think that who he wants as assistants would have been part of the conversations. It's all part of the process, man.

I thought you were the eternal optimist? I realize the tone in Vancouver is that they don't feel it's a major loss as Green is the coach they were worried about losing but the hope is that he's learned enough after his first go around and he's more ready to lead an NHL team. As always time will tell.

Here's an odd little thing I noticed: Like Hartley, Gulutzan's first NHL head coaching job was a promotion from the AHL to replace Marc Crawford.

If you include Crawford replacing Keenan in Vancouver, three of the last four Flames coaches either replaced or were replaced by Crawford at one point in their careers.

Yeah true, you think they got that far though? My impression is that they were still debating between a couple guys and what they bring to the table. To interview a set of assistants for both of them as well seems tough, unless Treliving gives free reign. Then again, I'm completely talking out of my ass and speculating haha

If I recall, Treliving says he will be the one responsible for looking/hiring the assistant coach, but he would like some insight from the head coach as well.
