I'll be in my garage putting new grips on my clubs this week.

Also donating a set of clubs I have to a family so their young son can take up the game. Paying it forward in regards to what someone did for me in my youth.

Going back a few pages to the custom fitting discussion. I'm thinking of going that route for irons this year as my old ones at 13 years and counting now. I see lot's of places do fitting but they all seem to specialize in one manufacturer (or am I mistaken?). So how does a person even begin when you don't know what brand of clubs are good for you to begin with? I'm leaning Ping but for no other reason than I don't know jack about any of the other types or who makes a good game improvement iron these days. Only other person I know who was fitted got Pings so that is the extend of my knowledge.

I went to the driving range on friday.. That was an interesting experience.

First 30 balls were all essentially perfect iron hits. There I am confidant this season will be great. Then pretty much shanked the next 30 balls. Feeling defeated I almost quit. Then the last 30 so so balls were a mix of both.

I will need more practice...

a guy at work got fitted at GT and I think the way it worked was, the guy told him to take a few shots, and suggested 3 brands off of that and then did some more testing and ranked those 3 for him and told him to take that into consideration with how each brand feels to him, personally.
I think that's about how it worked for him

Lubicon, best advice would be to seek out a demo day at an outdoor range.

River's Edge has a good one with most manufacturers represented.

this result is most surprising to me as i am usually long and straight on the range. the troubles start on the first tee box.

Anyone want to recommend a set of clubs for a 10yr old? I'm assuming he wouldn't need the full set?

My kid wants to start playing, and I THINK he can start hitting the links with me. I just don't know where to get him started.

There any good early morning deals people are aware of?

Being unemployed I wouldn't mind getting out early on week days for some rounds this year.

Are you willing to drive outside the city or do you want to keep it close? What part of town do you live in?

Willing to drive. Live in sunnyside so nothing really close to me.

I sort of think the out of town courses might have some weekday deals since they may not be too busy?

Yep, was going to suggest Nanton, but geez that's a hell of a drive from sunnyside. I can't remember exactly and this year may be different but I believe they had something like $30 for 18 holes and cart before a certain time. And it's a pretty decent course, too.

Check out US Kids Golf. The clubs are made specifically for kids, ie. light enough so the can swing them properly, and not just a cut down version of adult clubs. Golf Traders had some when I was in there a couple of weeks ago, so you should be able to find some for a good price. Check out kijiji as well.

Elbow Springs does dynamic pricing. It's not that far from you. Silverwing would be another option, but the conditions are suspect at best.

McCall Lake is closed this year for renos, otherwise that would be a great option. I really like the layout, but pace is awful and the city doesn't take care of it.

Bought a used premium shaft for my driver on Ebay... last Saturday, four shots later, my brand new 2017 M1 head was flying 150 yards into the middle of a busy driving range.

Someone had tried to cover up that the shaft was shortened a ton by only inserting the shaft into the TM adapter about 5/8ths of an inch, with a solid mass of epoxy at the bottom of the adapter to try to make up for the missing 3/4 inch or so of shaft.

Have spoken to the seller already - hopefully this goes well. I paid duties, put on my preferred grip, and have serious scratches on a brand new M1 head. Pretty bummed.

However, still got out and played 18 on Sunday with the stock shaft, so still happier than I was Friday!
