the Hitler youth didn't really indoctrinate based on threats of death to these children. They were indoctrinated via the concepts of patriotism and racial superiority.

When you're young and impressionable and your teacher is telling you about how the Jews are dirty insidious, responsible for Germany being in the place that it is. It doesn't take much.

A child that's forced to be a soldier through fears of death and horrors, is going to be a worse soldier then one who is taught hate honestly, and that he's protecting his family, his volk, his country against a inhuman evil, that becomes a convicted and frightening child soldier.

Look at the Hitler youth in the last days of the Reich, they weren't being threatened with execution if they didn't fight. They burned with patriotic zeal and hatred. Those kids weren't mentally ill, they were indoctrinated.

And some hated to their grave decades later.

Sounds like this was wrong, they pointed to a linkedin posting and that Alek Minassian has come out and said, its not me.

I have no idea how you can prevent events like this from happening. I can’t even imagine being on that sidewalk with my kids while someone intentionally tries to run us down. Horrifying.

Also, I used to live very close to this area. It’s quite densely populated as Mel lastman (the former mayor) went to quite the effort to develop the area. Very surreal seeing sidewalks I used to walk frequently suffering an attack like this.

CTV is going with the same name and cites “multiple sources” (Mercedes Stephenson was the reporter on TV making the claim)

It could be they have both been tricked or there are multiple Alek Minassians out there.

The ####ty thing about releasing a name is that people with a similar name in the same area open themselves up to harrassment from the public on social media despite no information on suspects being made public by police. There is an Alex Minassian (note, different spelling) from the GTA that is getting harrassed simply due to having a similar name.

Mercedes is excellent and one of my regular follows, and she rarely makes mistakes. Like I said, I think that there's confusion over the person, it might be Alek Minassian but someone probably googled his name and threw up the first linked in account or face book account that they could find.
