On another note, Bellinger signs with the Cubs for 3 years $80M. Far cry from the 8 he was apparently seeking. Boras must be pissed at his least successful off-season. He came ready into the GM meetings with every media metaphor ready to go and clearly has lost some pull based on this years' GM's spending money more wisely (minus LA).
With regional broadcast deals falling apart due to Bally's and its financial troubles, he should have read the room here.

For sure. I've noticed MLB teams in general the past three years or so have been very weary of handing out large contracts. Certainly there are exceptions for exceptional players, but the days of marginal stars getting huge contracts without showing consistency, seem to be temporarily on pause. It's good to see. In Vlad's case I'd say there's little market for an 8 year offer out there. Maybe there won't even be a 5 year one. Which puts the advantage for the Jays in negotiations. Bo seems to be one of those guys who are among the best at their positions and relatively young, and consistent, where I worry he'll get a huge offer and leave. He holds all the cards. But getting back to the market in general, really looks like GMs aren't being pushed by Boras anymore.

The deal Bellinger signed with the Cubs would have been perfect with the Jays but I’m sure they’d have wanted 3 years/$100m to come to Toronto which isn’t worth it.

It was a Fantasy Football thing. Mayza finished last with a record of 4-10. So he had to be the teams batboy for a couple of innings. Pretty funny actually.

A good article on The Athletic about Jays players getting caught up in the Ohtani flight debacle.

GAUSMAN: “So I mean, we’re just sitting there, kind of in our own little world in Puerto Rico. And then we’re all like, ‘Are we gonna get this guy? Are we not gonna get this guy?’ So it was definitely an interesting 48 hours.”

Can’t watch but sounds like Manoah is off to a brutal start today? That’s not great.

He hit 3 batters.

Was he hanging out with Ricky Romero or what happened to this guy?

Yeah thats not a good sign for Manoah bouncing back.

Mitch White, come on down. I guess he's throwing 98 and slicing up batters. Rodriquez, Tiedemann and Dallas all lurking as well.

Remember that Berrios had a ####ty WBC and preseason last year and ended up with a really good season. Hoping that Manoah’s just working some stuff out and will get back on a positive trajectory.

I'll worry if it continues. It's spring training. Everything should be taken with a pretty massive grain of salt.

Agree. It’s a few games in. Guy want to try new things and are generally probably tight. Would be nice to come out high but it means little the first couple weeks. Manoah had a real humble moment earlier this week saying they’d have been better if he pitched well, so that’s a good sign his brain is in the right place. Let’s see how it all works out.

Maybe he was trying out his new cutter. Should be using a slap chop instead

I mean, it sort of seems like this is it continuing from last year...

Hopefully he still bounces back, because they could use another top tier starter.
