Got this for a Christmas present 2-3 years ago, the black paint has held up surprisingly well. Bits of silver/chrome on the bottom of the strap, but the face still looks nice & black.

Yea! My favourite thread returns.

I've made a bunch of changes to the collection - buying selling trading.

Here are a few of my current favourites.

Sarpaneva - I love this watch!

So damned expensive though

I got this as a wedding present from my in-laws

Link Calibre S (Tiger Woods Non-Touring Edition)

A Tiger edition watch as a wedding present, and from the in-laws no less. Nice.

I think I've posted in this thread before, but I'll be damned if I'm going that far back to look for it. This is mine:

^^^ I like that one. Ive just picked up a new one and seem to enjoy the black on black. I think its tacky when someone rolls up their sleeves and all you can do is stare at this piece of metal on their wrist.

For those here that are spending 2K+ on watches, where do you recommend buying them? In Canada, US, online?

I'm looking to get this one at some point in the next year or so; and want to get the best deal I can on it.

Im all about online.
Its obvious if you find a 2k watch for $500 then its a fake but if its 2k everywhere and you find it for $1500 online you got a sweet deal. Many of these online places do not have the overhead of a traditional store which allows them to reduce pricing.

Good question. I'm wondering teh same thing because the watches I've found that I like online have no retailer / distributor in Canada. And I'm not flying to Europe to buy a watch.

www.prestigetime.com/

Buying from an AD is obviously safest. You can expect authorized dealers to discount by 20% or more on most brands except for the most popular models. I've found the people at Calgary Jewellers nice to deal with.

If you're willing to buy pre-owned - you'll save a TON that way, I suggest the Sales Corner (http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...eadt&frm_id=32) and TZ Showcase (http://forums.timezone.com/index.php...eadt&frm_id=71) at Timezone.com - a watch enthusiast site. Just be sure to check references.

There is a Canadian site - www.canwatchco.com that is okay although it doesn't get a ton of traffic.

Online, it's tough to beat the prices offered by Zeetan at www.collectorstime.com. Zeetan is in Malaysia but don't let that scare you. He's very well known and respected as a fair trader. Expect to pay GST for watches imported from outside Canada as well as PST if it applies where you live.

One word of warning, you should assume that the manufacturers will not honor the warranty for watches bought from gray market dealers.

Nice to deal with, but are they knowledgeable? I went to another place, Brinkhaus, a few days ago just to look at some of the watches in person, and while the lady there was very nice, she clearly didn't know what she was doing. Every time I asked her a question, she just looked at the little hangtag for answers. Not super useful, considering some of the watches there are the price of a new car.

I've found that when looking up certain brands/models, a place like watchuseek.com is often the best resource for good insight. I'm fairly new to the watch hobby, and have learned a ton there.

Typically I never wear a watch unless it catches my eye. This one caught my eye on a cruise last year. Still like it.

True, I generally find a lot of ADs employ people who don't have a lot of knowledge. But Bernard's employees are knowledgeble to my satisfaction. Also, most of the sales staff aren't really enthusiasts like us, and beyond qouting that this watch has sapphire crystal, automatic, and is 316L stainless steel, they don't know much. So I tend to be a bit more forgiving.

But I do a agree, you must have SOME knowledge on what you're selling. Case in point: A lady almost gave me the wrong qoute on a Paul Newman daytona vs a regular 116509, which would have been a huge lost for her shop if that went through.

I have 3 Diesel watches that I wear day to day. My baby though is a Movado that I bought 4 years ago.

True story - Instead of getting a 3K ring or something I told my fiancee that I would just get a plain 500 dollar ring and a sweet watch. Good thing b/c she ended up cheating on me 2 months after getting married so while I threw out the ring, I've still got my 2000 Movado .
