The Fraser Health Authority has ordered Enerex Botanicals Ltd. to publish a retraction after the company ran an ad in the Vancouver Sun newspaper earlier this week promoting its oil of oregano product as "the natural way to help combat whooping cough."

The ad, which pictures packages of the supplement next to a vaccine needle that's been snapped in half, says: "It's nice to know that vaccines aren't the only choice to combat this highly contagious bacterial disease."

Whooping cough, or pertussis, affects the respiratory tract, according to a fact sheet prepared by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

Initial symptoms are similar to the common cold, but an infected patient eventually develops coughing spells so bad they may cause patients to gag or throw up. Infections can last as long as two months.

In serious cases, whooping cough can case pneumonia, seizures and even brain damage.

Babies and young children are particularly vulnerable to whooping cough, killing one in every 170 infants who contract the disease.

An alternative therapist who failed to refer a client to a doctor while an invasive cancer ate through her skull could continue practicing unimpeded, raising concern among medical professionals.

Iridologist Ruth Nelson may face Human Rights Tribunal action over her treatment of Yvonne Main, who sought help for what she believed was a cyst on her head in 2008.

Mrs Nelson, from Te Horo, south of Levin, carried out a variety of natural health treatments over the next 18 months, as the invasive carcinoma grew to 10cm by 11cm in size.

By the time Mrs Maine went to see a doctor in late 2009, the cancer had eaten into her skull and exposed her brain.

She received major surgery, with part of her skull replaced with bone from her ribs, but died a year later.

I know several people whose children developed autism shortly after getting their MMR vaccine. Two of them had a second child and didn't vaccinate the second who grew up autism free. QED vaccines cause autism.

Also, I don't actually think Rubella is a real disease. I certainly don't know anyone who has had it. Why is the pharmaceutical backed government trying to vaccinate us against made up diseases? I will tell you why, profit. They weren't making enough money vaccinating against real diseases so they decided to make up a few. And on that note, if they really cared they would put the effort into curing the disease instead. Why are they letting these diseases exist when they could cure it.

I had rubella.

When I had my children, they highly recommended that all mothers receive the rubella vaccine before they got pregnant.

I did not know if I previously had rubella so asked my mother. She said I had German measles which is what rubella is sometimes called. To make sure, they did a blood test to see if I tested positive for the rubella factor, which I did...so I never required the vaccine.

This is why they developed a vaccine for rubella.

From 1964-1965, before the development of a vaccine against the disease, a rubella epidemic swept the United States. During that short period there were 12.5 million cases of rubella. Twenty thousand children were born with CRS: 11,000 were deaf, 3,500 blind, and 1,800 mentally ######ed. There were 2,100 neonatal deaths and more than 11,000 abortions – some a spontaneous result of rubella infection in the mother, and others performed surgically after women were informed of the serious risks of rubella exposure during their pregnancy.

The MMR vaccine came out when I had my second child. At that time, it was not offered free by health clinics. On the advice of my pediatrician, I had him order it in and he vaccinated my children. It cost $30 per vaccination per child.

Then in grade 6 and either grade 9 or 12, MMR was offered free by health nurses at their school. So that basically was when my children had their final booster for MMR.

It doesn't matter what they say, the fact they are still talking about this woman gives her way more credit than she deserves. A lot of the people who are the types to believe her message are also the types to ignore the science.

That's an odd thing to say, since she will now be on a show that is watched by mostly women and many mothers.

If anything we need more articles and people speaking out against her, so when these parents google her they see more negative than anything else said about her.

I just don't get this idea of we should not talk about her, while she is out there in talk shows and speaking at rallies to cast doubt on vaccines, your response is that people like Bill Nye, Phil Plait, etc.. should just not talk about her and leave what she says out there without response from the science community?

There are plenty of stupid opinions on television. Creationists, bigots, climate change deniers, alternative medicine, psychics, FOX News.

Who can decide who should be on TV, and who should not? The View is an entertainment show. Does it have any obligation besides attracting viewers?

I don't know how we can ever avoid bad information. What we really need to do is better train people in critical thinking.

Until she actually talks about it on the View, then all articles that talk about what she "might" say on the View, are only giving her free advertisement.

At least on the View, she will have to defend them. I wouldn't be surprised if they told her that topic is off limits.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the argument of whether they should hire her for the show, no one is suggesting the government step in and block ABC from hiring her. She is a public figure who makes her beliefs public and is therefore free to be ridiculed for them.

There seems to be this growing number of people that believe that freedom of speech somehow grants them freedom from criticism because "I'm allowed to believe whatever I want". Yes, you certainly are allowed to believe there is a magical poop unicorn in your butt, I don't have to respect that belief though.

I thought the right to free speech in the US was the right to avoid government persecution for openly speaking your views, not the right to disseminate harmful lies.

Though, I guess Fox News won that court case that says "yeah #### it, you guys can lie, who cares", so perhaps ABC would just cite precedence.
