I enjoyed Mission Impossible. Simple enough plot, entertaining action scenes, nothing about the action or plot seemed too over the top or stupid. It was nice to watch a movie where the action sequences weren't completely reliant on CGI the whole time, or didn't seem like they were. It also avoids the two worst developments in action movies in the last 25 years, shaky cam and constant erratic edits/cuts. It made the car/bike chase scenes feel real. We actually got to see these wide sweeping angles and then close up cams without the camera cutting away every split second to mask how fake the action was. It felt like you were really watching a car chase.
However a special thumbs down to the two annoying people in the theatre. Guy next to me spent the whole movie heavily breathing, like really heavy, at one point I was actually worried he had a respirator going or something. And the insane lady who chuckled, not a full belly laugh, more like a giggle, every 5 minutes the whole movie. It was the weirdest thing ever. And it wasn't random, she wasn't high or talking to her friends. She was laughing at the movie, but not at the funny parts. There are some minor laughs in the movie but she'd chuckle at everything. "Ethan, the bomb is going to explode in 3 minutes and they've killed Joe" (followed by 10 seconds of chuckling). I wanted to punch her real bad. Thankfully the movie was loud enough it only ruined the quiet parts.

Boy that Mile 22 movie they keep advertising looks like one of those Netflix B movie specials. That dialogue in the car between Lauren Cohan and Wahlberg is cringe inducing.

I'll probably still watch it because the actors in it are very high level, but I was hoping that someone would say its awesome.

A few of us watched it when it was the movie of the week on iTunes and we all quite enjoyed it.

Saw Blackkklansman this afternoon. Very entertaining film, and quite powerful. It was also much funnier than I thought it would be. Mixing humor and serious drama is a tough balancing act, but I thought they pulled it off really well. Great performances as well. I hope it earns a few Oscar nods come awards season.
Easily Spike Lee's best film since Inside Man.

Is Ready Player One worth a watch?

I just finished it 10 minutes ago...
It's meh, ok? Predictable hero's journey peppered with lots of nostalgia. Not really a great movie.

Took my kids to The Meg
That was fun but not overly memorable. A lot of good parts revealed in the trailers.
It has a big Chinese component in the film. I expect it will do well overseas. The kid in the film is really cute.
I'd say it's more Godzilla (the Matthew Broderick version) than Jaws.

Totally agree.
Fantastic book - disappointing movie.
Spielberg has lost his touch.

I like Ready Player One, mostly the first half. The second half was too much of a classic happy ending movie where the bad guy grunts and stuff. The beginning was creative and told a coherent story.
Just came back from Mission Impossible and despite not liking most action flicks for the plot holes and over the top nonsense, I actually enjoyed this movie. Henry Cavill was a terrible actor in this, as was his boss, but the action was good. Dialogue was a little non-nonsensical and unnecessarily detailed early on, but still worth the price of admission.

I found the book disappointing and give Spielberg credit for turning a messy story into a watchable movie. That said, there is like 25 minutes of non-CGI in the movie. Spielberg was pretty much director in name only.

I loved Hereditary, one of my favourite horror movies ever.
It went full crazy and was one of the most uncomfortable horror movies I've watched.

Hereditary was unusual, those movies are going to get a lot of love and hate. I personally felt like they could have gotten more out of the premise, but that's neither here nor there. It's definitely another example that the horror genre is doing well right now.
Wicker Man (the original) comes to mind as a comparison point. (Although Hereditary was a lot more conventional as a whole.)

I chose to watch John Wick 2 last night as opposed to Ready Player One and am glad I made that choice. I don't think it was as good as the first one but it was a solid movie.

First of all I'm not the biggest fan of Cavill but I didn't think he was as bad in Mission Impossible as some are saying. Since he towers over Cruise I thought he brought a menacing presence to the role and really wasn't given a lot great dialogue to work with. Not a distraction to me at all. As for the movie it's Mission Impossible so if you didn't like the other movies this new one won't convert you but if you are a fan there was a lot to like with great stunts and action sequences. My only criticism is that it was a bit on the long side. Oh and Rebecca Ferguson is a stunning woman.

I have mixed feelings about some parts but it fully accomplished what it set out to do. A horror movie that inspires extreme discomfort is more interesting than the usual hour and a half of sparse watered down jump scares that have been done countless times.
It proved that building atmosphere and tension can, if done right, actually be much more effective.
It also provides the comfort after of knowing that your sanity is intact.
